Moritz Breske's classic career in retail has turned into a personal milestone: the 37-year-old has taken over the REWE Centre on Winterbeker Weg in Kiel - an area the size of a football pitch, 170 employees and a product range that leaves nothing to be desired. He has always been able to rely completely on the support of the cooperative.

Green Week 2026

Strong signals for agriculture

At Green Week 2026 (16-25 January, Berlin), REWE Group clearly focused on its partnership-based cooperation with local agriculture. At the trade fair stand, we presented initiatives that strengthen transparent supply chains and promote fair cooperation - including new three-party models in the vegetable and dairy sectors. There was also an award for Emilie Bourgoin, Group Director Public Affairs and Chairwoman of REWE Group's Competence Centre Agriculture.

Films & Co. in February

Existentially fast-paced

They run, pedal, play and talk their way through life. In "Souleyman's Story" and "Marty Supreme", everything is at stake. While one of them races through the streets of Paris on his bike, the other plays his way to the top of the world in ping-pong. Both films are loosely based on true events. But despite their similarities in the story, "Souleyman's Story" and "Marty Supreme" could not be more different in their respective virtuoso styles. Only the magnificent Trine Dyrholm, for whom the six parts of "The Danish Woman" were literally written to the body, can keep up with them in terms of series - to be seen on Arte.

As CEO of the REWE Group, Lionel Souque is committed to promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the workplace. He has now received the Queermentor Role Model Award 2026, which honours individuals who take responsibility, show attitude and actively promote social change.

PETA Vegan Award

Double win at the PETA Vegan Award for REWE and PENNY

REWE was honoured with the PETA Vegan Award 2026 in the "Best Vegan Variety" category. The animal welfare organisation recognised the comprehensive and continuously growing range of plant-based products as well as the company's clear commitment to a sustainable, vegan diet. The jury was particularly impressed by the innovative and consistently vegan products, the well thought-out brand strategy and REWE's overall coherent and credible image. PENNY will also be honoured with a PETA Vegan Award in 2026 - for an outstanding individual product.

BIPA officially entered the Romanian market on 22 January 2026 and opened its first shop in the Mega Mall shopping centre in the Romanian capital Bucharest.

Animal market visit

PENNY sponsors 700 sheep: several tonnes of winter feed donated

An animal incident caused quite a stir on 5 January: Around 50 sheep broke away from their flock and stormed into the PENNY store in Burgsinn. The flock of sheep has already attracted a great deal of media attention and millions of enthusiastic people speak for themselves. Now PENNY is providing the winter feed for the entire flock.

For a fear-free New Year's Eve for dogs

New Year's Eve is the most stressful night of the year for many dogs. Loud firecrackers, bright flashes of light and unfamiliar noises trigger fear - and many owners feel left alone in this exceptional situation. Cologne/Bonn Airport once again offered safety this year. In cooperation with ZooRoyal, the fear-free area was lovingly equipped so that people and animals could find peace and quiet.

REWE Group joins the international sustainability initiative SIFAV (Sustainability Initiative Fruit and Vegetables). Coordinated by the global sustainability organisation IDH, the initiative brings companies together to make global supply chains for fruit and vegetables consistently more sustainable and to anchor ecological and social responsibility in all processes.

Naturally female

Outside of documentaries, nature in all its beauty and relentlessness rarely seems to play a role in cinema. The exception to this rule are two female directors whose emotional and effortlessly instructive films are helping to get the 2026 cinema year off to an extraordinary start. Firstly, there is Ildikó Enyedi, who makes an ancient ginkgo tree the centre of attention in "Silent Friend". Secondly, Chloé Zhao has taken a closer look at the life of the Shakespeare family in "Hamnet". In "The Deepest Blue", 77-year-old Tereza dives into the Brazilian Amazon region.
