No wonder, then, that it has given rise to a whole host of myths and legends, true and fictional stories, a whole host of films – and even its own film sub-genres, ranging from the creepy to the romantic. Two decidedly original takes on the theme are hitting the big screen this summer. For the Cologne native, self-employment is not a matter of courage, but of confidence in her own abilities as a senior manager. For example: organising and communicating. And who, according to Agelidu, can do that better than women?

Drive up, open the boot, drive on: REWE is bringing a piece of the future of shopping to Euskirchen with a new drive-in pick-up service. The Drive&Go pick-up service has been launched at the REWE Centre on Narzissenweg: another REWE service that allows customers to have their online order delivered directly to their car. Without getting out of the car, without having to go to the store, in just three minutes.

2026 marks the beginning of a new chapter for ZooRoyal: the Germany-wide rollout of the ZooRoyal speciality stores is officially launched. What are the secret stars on the shelves of our Lithuanian markets? Our colleagues on site know the answer – after all, they see what ends up in their customers' shopping baskets every day.

The local retail platform Wolt and the Cologne wine cellar have launched a new partnership: since the beginning of March, wine lovers in Cologne have been able to order high-quality wines directly via the Wolt app and have them delivered to their door within a very short time. Around 120 selected bestsellers from the Kölner Weinkeller range are available to start with - from red, rosé and white wines to sparkling wines and non-alcoholic varieties.

REWE Süd Regional Manager Elisabeth Promberger emphasises the importance of supporting and encouraging women in their development. Characterised by team spirit and people who believed in her, the former competitive athlete is now passing this on. In this interview, she explains how mentoring can open doors - and why she prefers to ask questions rather than give advice.

Considerable growth in bookings, exciting new destinations: The messages from the DERTOUR Group's colleagues are usually enticing and promising. However, the war in the Middle East is currently putting a massive damper on the beautiful, colourful world of travel. Extremely in demand in these times: the crisis management team led by Melanie Gerhardt. Together with the partners, they are responsible for repatriating guests from affected regions and are in close contact with the authorities in Germany and abroad, airlines, hoteliers and destination agencies. Melanie Gerhardt gives us an insight into her current work.

The nationwide REWE and nahkauf food bank bag campaign 2026 ends with a strong result: 397,889 donation bags worth a total of almost two million euros go to the more than 970 food banks in Germany - a signal of solidarity in economically challenging times.

To protect the peatlands, the REWE Group now only offers soil with peat alternatives in REWE, PENNY and toom stores. Why is this important? Peat is extracted from drained moors. But only intact moors can store carbon dioxide. If peat, which has been stored for thousands of years, is extracted and used in potting soil, climate-damaging CO2 is released. Gardening without peat therefore contributes to climate protection. We explain the background to our commitment and provide tips on peat-free gardening.

Here you will find the REWE Group's personnel in March 2026.

In recent years, Lithuania has developed into a European hotspot for innovation and cutting-edge technologies. A wide range of opportunities for start-ups and, above all, business-orientated, hard-working, innovative people are allowing the dynamic local community to continue to grow - and we are right in the middle of it.

REWE Group is bringing lettuce mixes from hydroponic cultivation to its stores for the first time. The lettuces are grown all year round in special water basins and can therefore be produced in a particularly resource-efficient way. The result is lettuce that impresses with its quality and freshness. REWE is launching the new "Crispy Mix" salad mix in all stores in Bavaria - other varieties and regions will follow. PENNY will also start the nationwide launch at the beginning of April.

In a male-dominated IT world, the example of REWE digital manager Wenke Weißmann shows how women can get ahead - with potential, visibility and good support. A conversation about the importance of superiors, partners and modern working models for women's career paths. And about the fact that leadership should be one thing regardless of gender: good and contemporary.

With its current patronage of the Cologne-based alliance "With Women in Leadership" and the "Women to 1" initiative, REWE Group is sending a clear signal in favour of visibility, equal opportunities and modern leadership. She openly describes where REWE Group stands today - and why the 50:50 target has not yet been achieved despite progress. This side of the silent film era, there aren't many directors who could claim that two of their films were released in the same year. Let alone in the same month. US director Richard Linklater likes to juggle several film projects at the same time, which is why his chamber drama "Blue Moon" with Ethan Hawke was shown in competition at the Berlin Film Festival in 2025 and his homage to French filmmaking "Nouvelle Vague" in competition at the Cannes Film Festival shortly afterwards. In reverse order, both films are now brightening up German cinema in March. We venture further into the world of culinary delights and this time take a closer look at Italian cuisine. Because even though pizza and pasta have long been known beyond the country's borders, our colleagues show us what they personally consider to be the real cuisine of their country.

Sebastian Stein knows the key figures of his store inside out and combines them with commercial skills, a feel for customers and knowledge of human nature. His career has taken him from cashier to store manager to sales manager at nahkauf. Today he is a self-employed REWE merchant in Nieheim.

In our series "Animal dream jobs", we introduce you to ZooRoyal colleagues who have turned their passion into a career and show how diverse working with and for animals can be. Product and Category Manager Malte Kramer is one of them. In this film, he - and not least his dog Bonny - show you just how varied his dream job is.

Moritz Breske's classic career in retail has turned into a personal milestone: the 37-year-old has taken over the REWE Centre on Winterbeker Weg in Kiel - an area the size of a football pitch, 170 employees and a product range that leaves nothing to be desired. He has always been able to rely completely on the support of the cooperative.

Three generations, two businesswomen, one goal: to live and love retail. Former REWE businesswoman Gudrun Glock, her daughter and successor Katja Fiedler and granddaughter Johanna Fiedler talk about how they came to REWE, how they successfully manage stores, family and committee work - and why ironing sometimes helps to clear your head. From the amazement of western managers after reunification to the Corona crisis, from young talent and networking, from their own courage and their wishes for REWE - being a businesswoman means responsibility, creativity, communication - and how varied it can be to do the same thing day after day.

Pizza, pasta, tiramisu, ice cream or olive oil - the list of Italian delicacies is long.

retailers are proactive. They are single-handedly trialling concepts that push the limits of the state-specific laws on shop opening hours. Since 15 January, nahkauf Berszinski in Zierenberg, for example, has been offering local supply around the clock for a section of its store.

The next stop on our country tour takes us to a country that stands for enjoyment, tradition and joie de vivre: Italy! Here, everything revolves around culinary delights, quality and the shared experience of food. The market is more than just a place to shop - it is a social meeting place where people socialise and share their love of high-quality products.

They run, pedal, play and talk their way through life. In "Souleyman's Story" and "Marty Supreme", everything is at stake. While one of them races through the streets of Paris on his bike, the other plays his way to the top of the world in ping-pong. Both films are loosely based on true events. But despite their similarities in the story, "Souleyman's Story" and "Marty Supreme" could not be more different in their respective virtuoso styles. Only the magnificent Trine Dyrholm, for whom the six parts of "The Danish Woman" were literally written to the body, can keep up with them in terms of series - to be seen on Arte.

PENNY will also be honoured with a PETA Vegan Award in 2026 - for an outstanding individual product.

Outside of documentaries, nature in all its beauty and relentlessness rarely seems to play a role in cinema. The exception to this rule are two female directors whose emotional and effortlessly instructive films are helping to get the 2026 cinema year off to an extraordinary start. Firstly, there is Ildikó Enyedi, who makes an ancient ginkgo tree the centre of attention in "Silent Friend". Secondly, Chloé Zhao has taken a closer look at the life of the Shakespeare family in "Hamnet". In "The Deepest Blue", 77-year-old Tereza dives into the Brazilian Amazon region.

Diversity, cohesion, community - this is REWE Group's DNA, which has an impact far beyond Germany's borders. With activities in numerous countries, we not only have a strong international presence, but are also deeply rooted in the individual regions. But which countries are included? And what makes them special? Our country tour explains and provides authentic insights from all over Europe.

These are the REWE Group's jubilarians in January.
