David Puentez designs ‘his’ PENNY supermarket in club style in Hamburg Borgfelde: On 15 September,PENNY opened a discount supermarket styled by star DJ and music producer David Puentez at Bürgerweide 64–66 in Hamburg. The choice of “Pünti”, as his fans call him, is anything but coincidental for PENNY. PENNY and Pünti have shared a close history since the first Parookaville in 2015. The DJ was also chosen specifically from PENNY’s key EDM community. On the opening day, Pünti will be on site from 6 pm for a meet-and-greet.

Even from the outside, the PENNY supermarket exudes that club atmosphere with its stylish industrial façade and large-scale graffiti. Once the automatic doors have opened – without any bouncers or entry checks, of course – you feel as though you’re in a proper electro club: colourful LEDs everywhere, graffiti explicitly curated by Pünti and eye-catching speakers. Otherwise, the supermarket opts for a clean, scene-typical look. The first highlight is the mobile espresso bar: a real labour of love for Pünti, a coffee connoisseur.
But no DJ-PENNY would be complete without a few club staples. So the former shop manager’s office, overlooking the fruit and veg section, has been converted into a DJ booth. In the checkout area, the world’s smallest dance floor awaits customers. To really get the party going, a mini version of the PENNY DJ tower – familiar from the PENNY Parookaville store – is also on hand. With a brilliant DJ, the right music, the best caffeine fix and the perfect dance floor, nothing stands in the way of a proper disco. The entire shop design was realised in collaboration with the agency Team wfp.
I’ve known PENNY for many years through Parookaville and I know they know how to throw a party. So when I was asked to design a market in my own style, I didn’t have to think twice. The result is a place that brings together everything I love: music, coffee and good vibes. Even our joint demolition party was a massive event that really got the place buzzing. So it’s all the better that, from now on, you can experience the finished market and all my ideas in person every day.
Despite its highlights and striking design, PENNY Pünti remains a classic PENNY supermarket: around 3,500 products and the usual low prices. The only thing that really blows you away here is the bass – not the total on your receipt.
The shop, which covers around 600 square metres and is open Monday to Saturday from 07:00 to 22:00, employs 15 employees under the management of Mustafa Fazli. The shop opened in 1992 and, as a fixture in the neighbourhood, is extremely popular with local residents, schoolchildren and apprentices.
Even as a PENNY Pünti, the shop continues to offer a comprehensive range of snacks, chilled drinks and baked goods.
„With the PENNY on the Reeperbahn, we’re lucky enough to have what is probably the world’s most famous PENNY supermarket in the North region. With PENNY Pünti, we now have a second attraction in Hamburg. That makes me proud, and I hope we can bring a lot of joy to fans and customers alike.“ Daniel Perpeet, Chairman of the Management of PENNY Region North
In 2025, PENNY generated revenue of 10 billion euros in Germany, with around 2,130 branches and around 31,000 employees.
„Following the successful launch of PENNY Leylaland, we are creating another special brand experience with PENNY Pünti. Together with Pünti, our long-standing partner, we have created a store that authentically combines the positive EDM vibe with the shopping experience.“ Jan Flemming, Head of Marketing at PENNY
