Obituary for Stefan Magel

Stefan Magel, Divisional Director of REWE Group/ COO PENNY from 2016 to 2022, passed away on Friday (12 September) after a long and serious battle with cancer, which he fought so courageously and bravely. In addition to great sadness and bewilderment as well as deep sympathy for the family, REWE Group and PENNY above all have great respect for the life's work of the top manager. During the "Magel era", important decisions were made that set the course for PENNY's current success. Stefan Magel has shaped the discounter as a senior manager, visionary and moderniser in equal measure.

Trainee exchange REWE Ost - BILLA

New ideas in the bag

Relaxed hosts, fixed routines and cheese spaghetti that tastes like bacon: These were just some of the eye-opening experiences that REWE trainees brought back from their exchange with BILLA in Austria. 15 trainees from REWE Region East travelled to Vienna from mid-July to the beginning of August to immerse themselves in the Austrian retail world at BILLA.

HR expert Charlotte Ehl is one of the ten winners of this year's "Goldener Zuckerhut" foundation prize for young talent. The 28-year-old received the honour in Berlin; one of the first to congratulate her was REWE Group CEO Lionel Souque.

Patrick Franz is a businessman and runs a nahkauf supermarket in Fulda and a REWE store in Bad Soden-Salmünster. In his free time, he pursues two remarkable hobbies: Boxing and ice swimming. He draws strength from these for his everyday work. Because, as surprising as it may sound, the 41-year-old sees parallels to his job in both.

Anhelina Kirnadz is a fashion designer and public relations manager at the municipal theatre in Chernivtsi (western Ukraine) when the invasion by Russian troops begins on 24 February 2022. World record for homeless people

100 people build ten mini houses in ten hours: The Little Home association invited people to Berlin in mid-August to attempt this world record. The winners are the homeless people who will now benefit from the little houses.

The willingness to help gave courage

It was a year ago in July that the tidal wave devastated large parts of the Ahr valley. The house of Beatrix Schäfer-Hoffmann, an employee at REWE Schäfer in Bad Neuenahr, was located in the small town of Dernau. It was swept away by the flood. one visited her and her husband Wolfgang Hoffmann in their temporary home.
