Every eleven minutes a single falls in love with... REWE? If Matthias and Dominik have their way, yes. The newlyweds met and fell in love at work.
Deep gazes across the cheese counter, holding hands between packets of soup and hot flirtations at the freezer? A supermarket doesn't seem like a very suitable setting for a love story. But far from it: Matthias and Dominik had a spark at work, and now the couple said "I do".

The two have been working together at Markus Teupe's REWE store in Dortmund since 2019, Matthias Wölk (39) as store manager and Dominik Groß-Wölk (38) as a specialist sales assistant at the cheese counter. They liked each other at first sight, but they really hit it off at their first Christmas party together. "Dominik tried to imitate the Vulcan Star Trek greeting, but it didn't quite work and then I helped him," recalls Matthias.
The two have been open about their relationship from the very beginning. "We're like one big family and didn't make a secret of it from day one!" says Dominik. Incidentally, the two are not the first same-sex couple to come together at REWE Teupe. The master butcher had already found the love of her life in the first sales assistant.
To top it all off, the two nerds, as Matthias and Dominik call themselves, said "I do" at the Dortmund registry office at the beginning of the year. For REWE salesman Markus Teupe, it was a matter of honour to accompany the solemn moment as best man.
We spoke to the happy couple.
"What a likeable colleague!"
one: Do you remember the moment when you saw each other for the first time? What went through your mind?
Matthias: I thought to myself: "What a likeable colleague at the bar!" We really fell in love at the first Christmas party.
Dominik: Markus Teupe had already told me about Matthias beforehand and said that we would definitely get on well. And I liked him straight away.
one: What's it like working together as a couple? Do you always work the same shifts?
Dominik: Yes, at least early and late shifts, unfortunately it's not completely convenient. But we can't ask for any extra sausage.
Matthias: It's not always easy, but we try to keep work and private life as separate as possible. As my husband works in service, we don't have that many points of contact. The biggest challenge is coordinating when we go on break and what we eat. Dominik is a bit of a diva: buy the wrong liverwurst once and the house is already a mess!
one: Does it matter to you in your private life that one is the boss of the other at work?
Dominik: Not at all. We do talk a lot about work, but we keep it to ourselves.
one: What do you like to do in your free time? Do you share a hobby?
Matthias: We like exploring nature, going for walks, hiking and we both love cooking. And we both collect knick-knacks from Star Trek, Star Wars and Marvel.
Dominik: A lot of bric-a-brac!
Matthias: We are real nerds! (laughs)
one: Even the local newspaper reported on your REWE love story. What was your motivation for giving the press such private insights?
Dominik: Well, we thought maybe others would dare to take the step towards each other, fall in love and get married!
