Christoph Eltze: Contract extended

Christoph Eltze REWE Group has extended the contract with Digital & Technology Management Board member Christoph Eltze, 51, until 2029. Eltze was appointed to the REWE Group Management Board on 1 July 2022 and has been responsible for Digital & Technology since then. He was previously Divisional Director Retail Germany, responsible for Digital, Customer & Analytics and IT.

Corporate Communications Holding
Raimund Esser leaves, Philipp Schmitz-Waters arrives

Raimund Esser, Philipp Schmitz-Waters Philipp Schmitz-Waters, 41, joined the Corporate Communications holding division of REWE-ZENTRALFINANZ eG as Head of Corporate Communications REWE & Interface Management (Z UMC) on 1 July. In this function, he is also the corporate spokesperson for REWE Markt GmbH. Schmitz-Waters reports to Ines Schurin, Group Director Corporate Communications.
Following his master's degree in German and practical social sciences, Philipp Schmitz-Waters sought his way into the communications industry and, after working in the property industry, has been responsible for internal and external communications in various functions within the Adecco Group for the last eight years. Most recently, he held the position of Global Director External Communications at the headquarters in Zurich.
After a three-month induction and handover period, Schmitz-Waters succeeds Raimund Esser, 64, Head of Corporate Communications at REWE, who is retiring on 1 October after almost 25 years with the company.

Thomas Bonrath is responsible for media relations

Thomas Bonrath Thomas Bonrath, 54, was appointed Head of Media Relations REWE on 1 January. He will assume operational responsibility for managing REWE's public relations and media work. Thomas Bonrath currently reports to Raimund Esser and in future to Philipp Schmitz-Waters.

Peter von Kageneck replaces Anna Schüler

Peter von Kageneck The REWE digital Corporate Communications team (formerly Brand & Communication) headed by Anna Christina Schüler moved from REWE digital to REWE-ZENTRALFINANZ eG on 1 June and was reassigned to the Interface Management & Consulting division headed by Raimund Esser, in future Philipp Schmitz-Waters. On 12 August, Peter von Kageneck will join the company and take over as Lead Corporate Communications REWE digital from Anna Schüler, who took maternity leave and parental leave at the beginning of May. Peter von Kageneck can draw on extensive experience in the field of corporate communications, most recently as Communications Director at the communications agency Lifesize in Frankfurt. In future, he will be responsible for internal and external communications at REWE digital.

Thomas Winnemöller manages Glockenbrot and W. Brandenburg

Thomas Winnemöller On 1 November, Thomas Winnemöller takes over overall responsibility for the Wilhelm Brandenburg and Glockenbrot production plants and the associated companies as Managing Director of Goods Production. He is appointed Managing Director of the respective companies and assumes the role of Chairman of the Management Board. At the same time, he is a member of the management of REWE Group Buying. He reports to Hans-Jürgen Moog, Group.Management Board Member for Goods. The managing directors Achim Scherle, Tim Schirmeisen and Peter Weidemeier will report to Thomas Winnemöller in future. After training as a butcher and completing a degree in food technology, Thomas Winnemöller gained many years of experience in managerial roles in production. in 2016, he moved to H. Kemper as Management Director Production. Since 2020, he has been responsible for The Family Butchers at Infamily Foods Holding as Chief Operation Officer.

Retail Germany
Susanne Fleckenstein responsible for expansion

On 1 July, Susanne Fleckenstein took over the role of Head of Expansion and Portfolio Management in the Real Estate/Expansion Retail Germany division. The functional areas Expansion REWE(Christian Schneider), Expansion PENNY(Henrik Stohr), Real Estate Location Strategy/Geo-Analytics(Christian Nolte), Real Estate Location Safeguarding(Erik Lorenz) and Real Estate Lease Affairs(Michael von Karczewski) will be assigned to this division. In future, Susanne Fleckenstein will report to Stephan Koof, Head of Real Estate / Expansion. Susanne Fleckenstein previously held various management positions at Lidl, ECE Project Management and Commerzbank before moving to Aldi Nord as Managing Director International Real Estate, Expansion & Finance. There she was also a member of the managing directors of the central property company and all other Aldi Nord property companies in Germany.

Wassilij Weber heads materials management

Vasily Weber On 1 June, Wassilij Weber, 36, took over as Head of Recyclables Management in the newly established Recyclables Management functional area. Wassilij Weber has several years of experience in the recycling industry and most recently worked at Interzero Circular Solutions GmbH. During his time at Interzero and Alba, he was able to develop various circular and waste management solutions for different industries. In future, the new recyclables management team will focus on securing raw materials and cost efficiency in the area of recyclables at REWE Group Germany by focusing on the circular economy and its operationalisation. Weber reports to Lara Sell, Head of Task Force Indirect Spend.

Priska Fateh is responsible for promotion

Priska Fateh Priska Fateh, 32, was appointed Head of Promotion on 1 July. Priska Fateh joined our company in February 2019 as Manager CM Support. She was appointed Lead CM Support Partner at the end of 2021 and moved to the Promotion team at the beginning of the year, which she has led since March of this year. Before joining REWE, Priska Fateh completed a dual Bachelor's degree and a part-time Master's degree including a trainee programme at Aldi Süd and then worked as a consultant at IRI.

Alina Jüngling is Head of Pricing

Alina Jüngling Alina Jüngling, 36,, was also appointed Head of Pricing on 1 July. Jüngling joined our company in August 2016 as a project manager in the Strategy REWE division, moved to the Pricing & Promotion team in CM Support REWE as Senior Manager in 2018 and has most recently been responsible for the Pricing team as Lead since the end of 2021. She previously worked at Deutsche Post DHL after completing her Master's degree in 2013. Priska Fateh and Alina Jüngling will continue to report to Mathias Lohoff, Head of Goods Full-range CM Support.

Jian Khaladj and Vanessa Catharina Hornbogen lead project teams

Vanessa Catharina Hornbogen, Jian Khaladj On 1 July, Jian Khaladj, 35,, took over responsibility for Project Team 2 within the Strategy & Consulting Retail Germany division as Head of Inhouse Consulting. Jian Khaladj already worked for REWE Group in various consulting roles from 2017 to 2021 and has since dedicated himself to other strategic projects. Since November 2023, he has been part of Inhouse Consulting again. Vanessa Catharina Hornbogen, 36, also took over responsibility for Project Team 3 within the Strategy & Consulting Retail D division as Head of Inhouse Consulting on 1 July. Vanessa Catharina Hornbogen joined the Strategy & Consulting division on 1 February as Senior Project Manager. Before joining REWE Group, she worked for several years in external strategy consulting, most recently as Associate Partner Strategy & Transaction Advisory Services at EY-Parthenon. Khaladj and Hornbogen report to the Head of Strategy & Consulting Retail D, Philipp Schachten.

Melanie Klimpel replaces Jürgen Billerbeck

Melanie Klimpel, Jürgen Billerbeck After nine years in the management of REWE Dortmund, in the managing directorship of Michael Brücken and in REWE Dortmund's fresh produce logistics, Jürgen Billerbeck, 61, will retire from January 2025.
Billerbeck has worked for REWE Dortmund since 2015 and is responsible for Human Resources as a division manager and authorised signatory. He worked for the REWE Group for a total of 43 years. After training as a wholesale and foreign trade merchant in 1981, he worked as a store manager for two years. After his training company was taken over by REWE Hungen, Jürgen Billerbeck worked in personnel development in various areas until he was promoted to Head of Personnel Development in 1993 and Head of Human Resources at REWE Hungen in 2005. in 2006, he moved to the head office in Cologne as Head of Human Resources and then as Head of Human Resources at REWE Markt. in 2015, he finally moved to REWE Dortmund. HR development was particularly important to him there, which he completely restructured in terms of organisation and content together with his team. Today, the division sees itself as a modern competence and service centre for recruiting and the professional and personal development of all employees in wholesale and retail. Melanie Klimpel will take over as Head of Human Resources from 1 January 2025. Klimpel, 48, joined REWE Group in May 2016. She initially worked as Head of HR for PENNY Markt GmbH at the regional headquarters in Lehrte. In September 2018, she took over as HR Manager and authorised signatory for REWE Markt GmbH, where she is still responsible for the e-commerce division. After training as an industrial clerk and studying economics, Melanie Klimpel worked in various companies as Head of HR Development and then as Head of HR at various companies before joining REWE Group in 2016. Melanie Klimpel will report to the CEO of REWE Dortmund, Hanno Rieger.

Retail International
Florian Klein succeeds Jürgen Öllinger

Florian Klein, Jürgen Öllinger After five and a half years as managing director and after 14 years at Adeg in wholesale, Jürgen Öllinger, 45, has decided not to extend his contract and to leave REWE Group at the end of the year. His successor has already been appointed: Florian Klein, currently Head of the Wholesale & Retailers division at Billa, will take over the position from January 2025.
Öllinger began his career in the IT organisation in 2003, before moving to Central Purchasing at REWE International AG. in 2010, he joined Adeg Österreich Handels AG, where he headed the Organisation, Category Management and Purchasing departments. He was appointed to the Adeg Management Board in 2019 and has been Managing Director of REWE Großhandel GmbH since 2022, where he is responsible for the Purchasing, Sales, Marketing and Building Technology & Furnishings departments. After his contract expires, Öllinger would like to move the centre of his life back to his native Upper Austria.
Florian Klein, 36, joined REWE Group from Boston Consulting in 2019. In the first few years, he was responsible for business development, controlling and strategy at Bipa. He has been Head of the Wholesale & Retailers division at Billa for two years. There, the Viennese is responsible for strategic, financial, personnel and legal issues relating to the Adeg merchant model and REWE Wholesale.
