
Volker Dürschlag
Dr Volker Dürschlag, Head of Holding Legal and Compliance Group, is leaving REWE Group at the turn of the year after more than 25 years with the company. He will take up a position on the Management Board of the newly founded REWE Prüfungsverband e.V.. Dürschlag joined the former REWE-Zentral AG from TÜV Rheinland on 1 June 1999 as a lawyer in the Legal department. In April 2003, he took over the management of the Legal department and has since been responsible for the legal support of the committees, the specialised departments of the corporate headquarters and the companies belonging to REWE Group in Germany and abroad. From the beginning of 2009, he also took on the additional role of Chief Compliance Officer of REWE Group and, from 2011, together with Andrea Roth, established the then new Central Compliance Management department.
Sebastian Hempel
From January 2025, Dr Sebastian Hempel, 49, will take over from Volker Dürschlag as Group Head of Legal. In this role, Hempel will report to Dr Sven Spork, Divisional Director of Corporate Affairs at REWE Group. Sebastian Hempel studied law in Berlin and completed an MBA programme in London. In 2006, he joined the Legal department of REWE-ZENTRALFINANZ eG. After holding various positions within the REWE Group, he took over as Head of Legal at the DERTOUR Group in 2018. Since then, he has reorganised the legal department to meet the changing needs of the internationally expanding Travel and Tourism business. He will be succeeded at DERTOUR Group by Dr Anja Schlepper on 1 January, who will report to Patrick Lambertz, Chief Financial Officer DERTOUR Group.
Karsten Thoms and Stefan Meyer
On 1 October, Karsten Thoms, 55, took over the position of Head of R2R - Financial Accounting at REWE Group Business Solution (RGBS). He reports to Dirk Kühn . In this context, Stefan Meyer, 36, has taken over the position of Head of Financial Accounting Retail National and reports to Karsten Thoms. Meyer started at PENNY Markt GmbH in September 2021, where he most recently worked as Head of Asset Accounting Retail Germany. He had previously worked for PENNY as Team Leader Financial Accounting from the end of 2014 to May 2018. Dietmar Berger also took over the position of Head of Central Accounting Holding Companies on 1 October. He also reports to Karsten Thoms. Berger started as an RZO accountant in May 2003. He was appointed Head of Central Accounting on 1 August 2007.
