Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe and has a turbulent history. As the birthplace of the Cyrillic alphabet, the country is home to numerous cultural treasures, including the Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak, whose impressive wall paintings tell of the country’s rich past.
But Bulgaria has much to offer beyond its history: the Balkan Mountains, the Black Sea coast and the famous Valley of Roses – known worldwide for its rose oil production – all make the country an attractive destination.
