Alexander is the eldest of actor Stellan Skarsgård's six sons and one daughter. "There was more freedom in trousers" was one of the most memorable lines on the competition screen at this year's Berlinale. It came from the mouth of Sandra Hüller, who as the titular heroine "Rose" slips into this very garment during the Thirty Years' War. With it, she enjoys all the privileges of a man - self-determination, inheritance rights and property - and asserts them when she returns to her home village after the war. Austrian director Markus Schleinzer reduces "Rose" to black and white images and polished dialogue without any grand gestures.

In "Rose", Sandra Hüller wears the mystery of her character as a scar on her face and as a leg dress on her body. She is thanked for both when she is awarded the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlinale. In the intervening years, the career of Hüller, who was born in Suhl in 1978, took off and became international.
