Slovakia stands for tradition, community and progress – and it is precisely this combination that defines BILLA's role in the country. BILLA arrived in Slovakia 33 years ago as the first foreign supermarket chain and now has a nationwide presence with 184 stores.
BILLA has long seen itself as more than just a local supplier. Culture can be experienced in the stores: live music, dancing and local specialities create encounters and bring joie de vivre directly into the shopping experience. BILLA is also actively involved in promoting a healthy lifestyle - for example through sports programmes such as football tournaments or joint canoe trips that combine exercise, community and fun.
BILLA Energy is also a particularly unique selling point. BILLA is the only retailer in Slovakia with a licence to operate its own community electricity grid. The energy is primarily generated by large-scale photovoltaic systems on store and logistics roofs - including the largest rooftop PV system of its kind at the Sereď site. Surplus energy is shared between the company's own locations within a legally authorised network, supplemented by intelligent battery storage and a digital energy management system that controls consumption, generation and savings in real time.
