Three awards: At this year’s V-Label Awards, no fewer than three plant-based own-brand products from REWE and PENNY were recognised. The winners were REWE Organic Plant-Based Tempeh with Sesame and Garlic, REWE Organic Plant-Based Thai-Style Spread and Food for Future Vegan Tiramisu.
The nominated products must impress in several ways: first, experts from the nutrition organisation ProVeg assess the entries in areas including recipe and health, marketing and design, and market potential. The finalists then take part in a blind tasting, which focuses on taste, texture and aroma.
It’s then up to the community: nearly 100,000 votes were cast in this year’s public vote. The final result is determined equally by the jury’s vote and the public vote: each accounts for 50 per cent.
For REWE and PENNY, this strategy paid off three times over this year: REWE Bio Plant-Based Tempeh with Sesame and Garlic won in the ‘Plant-Based Protein Components’ category, whilst REWE Bio Plant-Based Thai-Style Spread took the top spot in ‘Muesli & Spreads’. The Food for Future Vegan Tiramisu achieved the highest overall score in the ‘Sweets & Snacks’ category.
