nahkauf helps children in need
In its anniversary year, nahkauf remains true to its good tradition and donates 300,000 euros to Bild hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder". The most efficient fundraisers among the nahkauf retailers were there live in Berlin when the sum was announced in front of an audience of millions.
Retail International
BILLA, PENNY, BIPA and ADEG rely on numerous initiatives and partnerships to rescue unsold food. Thousands of tonnes of food are given a second chance in fruit and vegetable bags, at charitable organisations or processed into animal feed. Nahkauf promotes biodiversity
Little effort, big impact: Nahkauf stores promoted biodiversity in local gardens with nesting boxes for native songbirds. A campaign that encouraged the youngest customers in particular to protect nature.
REWE and Naturland
As a pioneer in the German food retail sector, REWE launched its strategic cooperation with Naturland Zeichen GmbH 15 years ago - a partnership that was intended to strengthen organic farming and make organic products accessible to a broader market. With success: around half of the now more than 850 REWE organic products, including all REWE organic meat products, now bear the Naturland seal.
Green Week
For nine days, we were guests at the Green Week in Berlin with our sales divisions and the Competence Centre for Agriculture. From 19 to 28 January, our focus at the leading international trade fair for food and agriculture was on direct dialogue with producers, politicians and consumers.
B.A.U.M., the network for sustainable business, has honoured our board member Dr Daniela Büchel with the Environmental and Sustainability Award in the large companies category for her many years of commitment to greater sustainability in retail.
Dispenser with 23 organic items
Fill, weigh, done - at the unpackaged station at REWE Istas in Cologne-Rodenkirchen and in ten other REWE stores, customers can now easily buy pasta, muesli and many other products in their own containers. We'll tell you how it works.
World Vegan Day
In a recent GfK survey commissioned by REWE to mark World Vegan Day on 1 November, 57.5 per cent said they had already bought these products. And more importantly, just under 27 per cent said that they replace animal products with plant-based alternatives several times a week.

REWE Group Austria and AfB
Together with AfB, our REWE Group Austria celebrated the 10th anniversary of their partnership on Monday (11 September). Since then, AfB has processed a total of 7,062 IT and mobile devices with a total weight of 38 tonnes from our colleagues in Austria.

DER Travel and Tourism Foundation
DER Travel and Tourism Foundation e.V. has launched a fundraising campaign to support the people of Rhodes affected by the forest fires. Every donation will be doubled by DER Travel and Tourism, which will also donate a further 50,000 euros.
Environmental impact costs
What would food have to cost if its environmental impact along the supply chain was taken into account in the retail price? Answers to this question can be found in a pioneering study that was presented as part of the "True Cost" campaign week (31 July to 5 August).
Large-scale photovoltaic system
REWE Group is investing in climate protection and in diversifying its electricity supply. It has now commissioned an exemplary photovoltaic system in the northern region.
Sustainability
NetFederation, a Cologne-based consultancy for digital communication, has compared the sustainability communication on the websites of 50 large German companies. As in the previous year, REWE Group took the top position in the ranking.
Special Olympics
The Special Olympics World Games have found a fan community: With 50,000 spectators at the opening ceremony and 330,000 visitors, the event exceeded all expectations. Right in the middle of it all: 100 volunteers and an athlete from REWE Group.

Just in time for the hot season, the nahkauf teams showed a heart for our feathered friends and helped thirsty (red) throats and all other flying garden guests with 4,500 drinkers.
REWE and Naturland
Converting to organic farming is costly for farmers in the first few years. This is where REWE's new trailblazers with Naturland come in. From the second year of conversion, REWE now gives farmers the opportunity to market their conversion goods as trailblazers.
Under the motto #TogetherStronger, BILLA, together with Caritas and other partners, is implementing a new initiative to comprehensively strengthen social justice.
State visit to Germany
From the Bundestag to the farm: during his visit to Germany, King Charles III stopped off at the Brodowin eco-village. There he learned about sustainable agriculture and also took time for climate protection and representatives of the NABU Climate Fund - including our board member Dr Daniela Büchel.

FC Köln's home match against VfL Wolfsburg on 25 February was all about Sustainability. Literally on the jerseys of the Billy Goats.
International Green Week
For years, REWE has been combining its local supply mandate with innovations that have positive effects on the environment, climate and resource conservation. Brand new: together with Deutsche Bahn, REWE will be supplying several communities in northern Hesse with a shopping bus from spring.

10 years of REWE Group Star
Ten winning teams were honoured for the tenth anniversary of the sustainability competition for young professionals. In their projects, they were committed to waste reduction, daycare centre children and refugees, and built feeders, insect hotels and a pergola for the monkey house. one briefly presents the winning projects.
Natural tree seal
This year, for the first time, PENNY is only offering Nordmann fir trees from domestic growing regions. Around 80 per cent of these firs bear the natural tree seal, which identifies trees from sustainable cultivation.

The REWE Green Farming supermarket in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim has been honoured with the "Red Dot Award: Best of the Best" in the "Brands & Communication Design 2022" category. However, there was another positive surprise at the award ceremony in Berlin.
"Month of the heart" at nahkauf
Instead of the traditional Heart Week, nahkauf dedicated an entire month to a good cause for the first time. The nahkauf teams put their hearts and souls into collecting money for needy children in September. one has collected some impressions of the wide-ranging commitment.

Shop in peace while your electric car refuels: at REWE Blumentritt in Meerbusch, the electricity flows into the vehicle batteries at lightning speed - thanks to the four particularly powerful EnBW fast-charging stations. This is the first location of several hundred that will follow in the coming months and years.

The end of a retail tradition: REWE is the first food retailer in Germany to decide to phase out printed flyers. The weekly leaflet about the offers in the more than 3,700 REWE stores nationwide is one of the oldest advertising media in the industry and is distributed to many millions of households in Germany.

FC special jersey
FC Köln and its partner REWE took to the field against Arminia Bielefeld on match day 31 of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season (23 April) in a special jersey with a focus on Sustainability. Instead of the REWE logo, the FC professionals wore the words "Lebe nachhaltig" ("Live sustainably") from the FC campaign of the same name on their chest.

Animal welfare initiative
After chicken and pigs, now also cows and calves: from mid-March, farmers can register for the Initiative Tierwohl (ITW) for cattle.
REWE donation campaign
REWE is committed to the continuous improvement of labour and environmental conditions in the countries where tropical fruits are grown and is thus securing the future of its commitment to sustainability in the banana and pineapple sector with a grant of 422,000 euros.
Cooperation with NABU
Toom collects mobile phones in its stores for the NABU campaign "Old mobile phones for bumblebees, bees and co." and thus supports NABU's insect projects. There is also currently an information campaign about improved packaging.
Black Mambas
During the pandemic, the all-female ranger team of the Black Mambas played a doubly important role: they protected the rhinos from poachers and, as the main breadwinners, secured the livelihoods of their families. A representative of the organisation reports.
