REWE Group Star
Whether it's animal welfare, beekeeping or firefighting walls for firefighters' kids: the winning teams of this year's REWE Group Star competition for young talent have developed exciting projects to make a lasting difference.
nahkauf helps children in need
In its anniversary year, nahkauf remains true to its good tradition and donates 300,000 euros to Bild hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder". The most efficient fundraisers among the nahkauf retailers were there live in Berlin when the sum was announced in front of an audience of millions.
Retail International
BILLA, PENNY, BIPA and ADEG rely on numerous initiatives and partnerships to rescue unsold food. Thousands of tonnes of food are given a second chance in fruit and vegetable bags, at charitable organisations or processed into animal feed. We show how food waste is avoided in Austria and what impact this has on the climate.
A year without flyers
It's hard to believe that it's already been a year since REWE discontinued the printed flyer. Today, our customers use modern and more environmentally friendly channels to find out about the week's bargains.
Nahkauf promotes biodiversity
Little effort, big impact: Nahkauf stores promoted biodiversity in local gardens with nesting boxes for native songbirds. A campaign that encouraged the youngest customers in particular to protect nature.
REWE and Naturland
As a pioneer in the German food retail sector, REWE launched its strategic cooperation with Naturland Zeichen GmbH 15 years ago - a partnership that was intended to strengthen organic farming and make organic products accessible to a broader market. With success: around half of the now more than 850 REWE organic products, including all REWE organic meat products, now bear the Naturland seal.
Green Week
For nine days, we were guests at the Green Week in Berlin with our sales divisions and the Competence Centre for Agriculture. From 19 to 28 January, our focus at the leading international trade fair for food and agriculture was on direct dialogue with producers, politicians and consumers.
B.A.U.M., the network for sustainable business, has honoured our board member Dr Daniela Büchel with the Environmental and Sustainability Award in the large companies category for her many years of commitment to greater sustainability in retail.
Dispenser with 23 organic items
Fill, weigh, done - at the unpackaged station at REWE Istas in Cologne-Rodenkirchen and in ten other REWE stores, customers can now easily buy pasta, muesli and many other products in their own containers. We'll tell you how it works.
World Vegan Day
In a recent GfK survey commissioned by REWE to mark World Vegan Day on 1 November, 57.5 per cent said they had already bought these products. And more importantly, just under 27 per cent said that they replace animal products with plant-based alternatives several times a week.
REWE and NABU
Together with NABU, REWE has long been committed to climate protection. A moor is now being renaturalised through the NABU climate fund. A visit on site.
Daniela Büchel in Berlin
People and Sustainability - Daniela Büchel's Management Board responsibilities combine two areas that have "a lot of music" at a political level. In order to contribute REWE Group's perspective and engage in dialogue, she spent a day in the capital for talks in the Bundestag, among other places.
REWE Group Austria and AfB
Together with AfB, our REWE Group Austria celebrated the 10th anniversary of their partnership on Monday (11 September). Since then, AfB has processed a total of 7,062 IT and mobile devices with a total weight of 38 tonnes from our colleagues in Austria.
REWE Group in Austria
REWE Group Austria's sustainability report for 2022 shows a positive development, despite economic challenges such as inflation and the associated enormous increases in energy costs.
DER Travel and Tourism Foundation
DER Travel and Tourism Foundation e.V. has launched a fundraising campaign to support the people of Rhodes affected by the forest fires. Every donation will be doubled by DER Travel and Tourism, which will also donate a further 50,000 euros.
Environmental impact costs
What would food have to cost if its environmental impact along the supply chain was taken into account in the retail price? Answers to this question can be found in a pioneering study that was presented as part of the "True Cost" campaign week (31 July to 5 August).
Large-scale photovoltaic system
REWE Group is investing in climate protection and in diversifying its electricity supply. It has now commissioned an exemplary photovoltaic system in the northern region.
Sustainability
NetFederation, a Cologne-based consultancy for digital communication, has compared the sustainability communication on the websites of 50 large German companies. As in the previous year, REWE Group took the top position in the ranking.
Special Olympics
The Special Olympics World Games have found a fan community: With 50,000 spectators at the opening ceremony and 330,000 visitors, the event exceeded all expectations. Right in the middle of it all: 100 volunteers and an athlete from REWE Group.
REWE Group
REWE Group acts in an environmentally and climate-conscious manner. The current sustainability report shows how the sustainability strategy was implemented last year - and which future challenges we are tackling.
Sustainability Week
Just in time for the hot season, the nahkauf teams showed a heart for our feathered friends and helped thirsty (red) throats and all other flying garden guests with 4,500 drinkers.
REWE and Naturland
Converting to organic farming is costly for farmers in the first few years. This is where REWE's new trailblazers with Naturland come in. From the second year of conversion, REWE now gives farmers the opportunity to market their conversion goods as trailblazers.
Under the motto #TogetherStronger, BILLA, together with Caritas and other partners, is implementing a new initiative to comprehensively strengthen social justice.
State visit to Germany
From the Bundestag to the farm: during his visit to Germany, King Charles III stopped off at the Brodowin eco-village. There he learned about sustainable agriculture and also took time for climate protection and representatives of the NABU Climate Fund - including our board member Dr Daniela Büchel.
REWE cleared the jersey
FC Köln's home match against VfL Wolfsburg on 25 February was all about Sustainability. Literally on the jerseys of the Billy Goats.
International Green Week
For years, REWE has been combining its local supply mandate with innovations that have positive effects on the environment, climate and resource conservation. Brand new: together with Deutsche Bahn, REWE will be supplying several communities in northern Hesse with a shopping bus from spring.
Networking at eye level
REWE Group's newly founded Centre of Excellence for Agriculture combines a sense of tradition with a start-up mentality. It is the first of its kind in the German food retail sector. Hans-Jürgen Moog, Management Board Member for Goods/Purchasing, and Emilie Bourgoin, Head of Public Affairs, talk about this pioneering concept.
