Fundraising campaign launched for Rhodes

DER Travel and Tourism Foundation e.V. has launched a fundraising campaign to support the people affected by the forest fires on Rhodes. The money raised will go directly to the relief and reconstruction efforts on the Greek island. Every donation will be doubled by DER Travel and Tourism, which will also donate a further 50,000 euros.

The forest fires on Rhodes have caused extensive damage in the southern part of the island. Thousands of holidaymakers had to be evacuated - including guests of DER Travel and Tourism tour operators. All our guests who were affected by the evacuation and wanted to return had already landed safely back in Germany last week on Tuesday (25 July).

To support our local partners and the affected population, DER Travel and Tourism Foundation e.V. is launching a fundraising campaign at www.dertouristik-foundation.com. The money raised will go directly to the relief and reconstruction efforts on the island. Every donation will be doubled by DER Travel and Tourism. In addition, DER Travel and Tourism will donate a further 50,000 euros.

„In times like these, we have to stand together as a community.“

CEO Central Europe of DER Travel and Tourism Group

Crisis management and emergency planning are becoming increasingly important

"This campaign enables us to provide support to those affected by the forest fires on Rhodes. Our heartfelt thanks go to the aid workers and also to our partners on Rhodes, whose support has made a significant contribution to helping those affected and our guests."

The recent fires on Rhodes show once again how important efficient crisis management and emergency planning are. DER Travel and Tourism is highly professional in this area: For example, Melanie Gerhardt, Head of Safety and Crisis Management at DER Travel and Tourism, has already established a training concept within the German Travel Association (DRV) focussing on extreme weather events. A large number of crisis training programmes have been developed for the industry. Melanie Gerhardt is currently on Rhodes and is personally assessing the situation.
