Sustainability Week
nahkauf gave water to birds
by Achim Bachhausen

Just in time for the hot season, the nahkauf teams showed a heart for our feathered friends and helped thirsty (red) throats and all other flying garden guests with 4,500 drinkers.

Together for more biodiversity: In May, our 450 nahkauf stores across Germany organised a campaign week on the topic of bird conservation. During this time, there were information flyers, free colouring books for children, a competition, the NABU bird counting campaign "Hour of the Garden Birds" and market campaigns to draw attention to the endangered habitat of garden birds.

"In the increasingly hot summer months, our feathered friends hardly find any watering holes to quench their thirst and refresh themselves. This is where we want to help," said nahkauf Sales Manager Mathis Neth, describing the motivation behind this year's campaign week.

The big, common goal: 4,500 hand-knotted bird baths, which will be made and hung up across Germany according to instructions from NABU. To achieve this, nahkauf once again relied on the support of existing sponsorships from previous campaign weeks, for example with kindergartens, schools, retirement homes, allotment garden associations and churches.
Here are a few examples of some of the campaigns:

First aid on hot days

From 8 to 14 May, nahkauf donated 4,500 DIY bird feeders bearing the "recommended by NABU" logo. These were hung up at selected clubs, kindergartens and schools. A win-win situation for everyone: the birds find water and the donors can watch them drink.
