Natural tree seal
PENNY sells locally grown Christmas trees

This year, for the first time, PENNY is only offering Nordmann fir trees from domestic growing regions. Around 80 per cent of these firs bear the natural tree seal, which identifies trees from sustainable cultivation.

Nordmann firs with natural tree seal No celebration without a tree: in a Statista Global Consumer Survey last year, 42 per cent of respondents stated that they wanted to put up a "real Christmas tree"; around one in four would opt for an artificial version. Without a tree, 21 per cent celebrate. Of the real trees, the Nordmann fir (75 per cent) is the most popular option. In a YouGov survey, more than half of respondents also stated that they would opt for sustainable options when buying Christmas trees in future.

PENNY is responding to both of these trends with its sustainably produced domestic Nordmann firs labelled with the natural tree seal. The Nordmann firs labelled accordingly come exclusively from Germany and will be sold in selected PENNY stores from Monday (5 December). In addition to the German origin, the natural tree label includes the obligatory planting of flowering areas and the creation of nesting opportunities. A new Nordmann fir is planted for every Nordmann fir, social standards are maintained and the trees can be traced back to the seed.

The Nordmann firs with the natural tree seal are planted in the Sauerland region. The trees are not yet available this year in the federal states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Berlin and Brandenburg. The Nordmann firs sold there by PENNY come exclusively from regional cultivation in Brandenburg.

Natural tree seal characterises trees from sustainable cultivation

Natural tree seal The natural tree seal was developed by the Verband natürlicher Weihnachtsbaum e.V., Moisburg, to label trees from sustainable, environmentally friendly and socially responsible cultivation.

"This year, we are offering our customers exclusively Nordmann firs from domestic growing regions for the first time. Around 80 per cent of these trees already bear the natural tree seal and give our customers the opportunity to actively promote Sustainability when buying Christmas trees," says Nico Wittlich, PENNY Head of Ultrafresh - Fruit, Vegetables, Flowers, Plants.
