The REWE Green Farming supermarket in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim has been honoured with the "Red Dot Award: Best of the Best" in the "Brands & Communication Design 2022" category. However, there was another positive surprise at the award ceremony in Berlin.
The winners were announced back in the summer. But now the winners of this year's "Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design" have been honoured for their achievements. Guests from around 30 nations accepted the ceremonial invitation from the Red Dot Design Awards.
The first announcement of the winners of the "Red Dot: Grand Prix" and the announcement of the Agency of the Year provided some surprising moments. This highest individual award of the competition, recognisable by the white trophy (instead of the black one), was only awarded six times among all entries.
Who achieved this outstanding performance was a secret until the evening of the awards ceremony (28 October). The REWE delegation was all the more delighted when it was announced that the REWE Green Farming in Wiesbaden-Erbenheim was among the chosen ones.

"Tonight has shown what it means to bring together the international communication design scene and the world's top companies in one place," said Professor Dr Peter Zec, summarising the Red Dot Gala. The CEO and initiator of the Red Dot Design Award hosted the evening. Together with the Red Dot judges, he presented the trophies to the winners of the "Red Dot: Best of the Best", who enjoyed their moment on stage to the applause of the guests.
Multi-award-winning pilot market
The multi-award-winning REWE supermarket in the Hessian state capital combines outstanding modular supermarket architecture with sustainable construction and operation. In addition, an aquaponic rooftop farm is used to produce food in the centre of the city. The prototype for the REWE supermarkets of the future has also won over the design industry with its special space and interior design, the design, the composition of the product range and the staging of the goods.
"When developing the concept, we had the courage to give the creative minds the greatest possible freedom of thought and to really scrutinise and renew everything that was established. The result is a new standard that is literally something to be proud of. We are therefore very pleased with the Red Dot expertise that our concept also fulfils the highest standards in terms of design and brand presence," said REWE Group Divisional Director Peter Maly."
