Under the motto #TogetherStronger, BILLA, together with Caritas and other partners, is implementing a new initiative to comprehensively strengthen social justice.
Supporting children and young people, especially girls and young women, is a matter close to BILLA's heart. Self-determination and financial independence are at the centre of this and depend to a large extent on school education and a good education. This is precisely where BILLA comes in and offers young people - regardless of their social background - important learning opportunities. In addition to the flagship project "Lernen macht Schule", BILLA is now also involved in the new #GemeinsamStärker initiative with Procter & Gamble, BIPA and Caritas. All measures relating to social commitment are planned and coordinated in the BILLA sustainability department.

Tanja Dietrich-Hübner, Head of Sustainability at BILLA: "The issue of equal opportunities is very important to BILLA. We have been working together with Caritas and WU in an education project for over ten years. For girls in particular, a school education with a qualification is an important first step towards a self-determined life. It is therefore particularly important to us that girls are supported through #learningopportunities with Procter & Gamble and that they receive the support they need."
#learningopportunities: Donate for social justice at BILLA in spring and late summer 2023
BILLA is committed to equal opportunities for children and young people in education under the #GemeinsamStärker umbrella. Together with Procter & Gamble and BILLA customers, a five-figure amount of donations will be collected from the sale of Procter & Gamble products as part of the #Lernchancen fundraising campaign from 27 April to 10 May 2023 and from 31 August to 13 September 2023. This will benefit the 67 Caritas learning cafés in Austria.
"Lernen macht Schule" supports children and young people
Since 2010, "Lernen macht Schule", a joint initiative of Caritas Vienna, Vienna University of Economics and Business, REWE Group Austria and BILLA, has been the flagship project in terms of equal opportunities and support for socially disadvantaged young people. Each semester, around 140 students from the Vienna University of Economics and Business support around 260 children and young people in their educational and social development. The focus is on learning from each other, as the students also develop their skills by interacting with people from other social groups and cultural backgrounds. In 25 facilities, including homes for refugees, mother-child homes and Caritas learning cafés, the students act as learning buddies to help the children and young people with homework, revision and leisure activities.
The *peppa girls' centre is also supported as part of this: This offers girls and young women in Vienna's 16th district a low-threshold counselling, education, leisure and information service. The aim of *peppa is to reduce inequalities and in particular the disadvantages faced by women, promote equal opportunities and support the freedom of choice and self-determination of young women and girls - with or without a history of migration or flight. Since the centre was founded, around 2,000 female visitors have been accompanied on their path to a self-determined life.
BILLA strengthens cultural and diversity competence among senior managers
At BILLA, we not only focus on promoting the senior managers of tomorrow, but also those of today. Learning at school" also plays an important role as part of internal training modules. In workshops and excursions to Caritas learning cafés, participants in the modules learn about awareness and sensitivity in dealing with other environments and cultures. "For us, it is essential to pass on the expertise that we continuously acquire through our social commitments at BILLA in a bundled and meaningful way. We don't just want to support young people, but also those who have been with us for many years. 'Lernen macht Schule' is a special project that benefits everyone involved and has a high priority in our training programme," says Markus Trauner, Expert Training and Development at BILLA.
