REWE Blumentritt in Meerbusch gets fast charging station
Milestone for the mobility turnaround

Shop in peace while your electric car refuels: at REWE Blumentritt in Meerbusch, the electricity flows into the vehicle batteries at lightning speed - thanks to the four particularly powerful EnBW fast-charging stations.

The energy company EnBW and the REWE Group opened the first location of their large-scale partnership for e-mobility on Monday (24 October): The first four fast-charging points were connected to the grid at the Blumentritt family's REWE supermarket in Meerbusch-Büderich. Telerik Schischmanow, CFO of REWE Group, and Timo Sillober, Chief Sales & Operations Officer and responsible for e-mobility at EnBW, were among those attending the opening ceremony for the new location. It is the first location of several hundred that will follow in the coming months and years as part of this partnership.

At Hessenweg 14 in Büderich, EnBW has installed fast-charging points in the highest power class of up to 300 kilowatts. "With this power, electric cars can charge up to 100 kilometres of range in five minutes," explains Timo Sillober. "Customers without private charging facilities benefit from this in particular."

Telerik Shishmanov, CFO of REWE Group, adds: "The retail sector plays a central role in the ramp-up of e-mobility for everyday use. REWE Group is working with strong partners to expand the charging options at our stores. We are expanding our e-infrastructure with the fast-charging points from EnBW: this additional offer makes everyday life much easier for our customers and employees. Furthermore, fast-charging points are another strong incentive to shop locally, which we are happy to offer our customers. As part of our own climate ambitions, we are planning to install a total of 6,000 charging points at existing rental properties and new buildings across Germany by 2025. Our partnership with EnBW is making an important contribution to this."

As at all EnBW charging locations, 100 per cent green electricity is also used in Meerbusch-Büderich. The fast-charging points there are the prelude to the nationwide expansion of charging options for electric cars: "Hundreds more locations are being planned and many of them are already under construction or about to go into operation. Together, we are consolidating the nationwide fast-charging network in Germany across all sectors," says Timo Sillober happily. The partners are also driving forward the mobility transition in Austria, where the Smatrics EnBW joint venture is building fast-charging points at REWE Group locations at BILLA, BILLA PLUS, PENNY and BIPA.

Strong partners: EnBW and REWE Group

- Over the next few years, EnBW will be building state-of-the-art fast-charging infrastructure at hundreds of REWE and PENNY stores.
- Each location will generally have four to eight fast-charging points. The majority of the locations can be expanded if required.

- At up to 300 kilowatts, the charging power corresponds to the highest power class available on the market. This allows customers to charge up to 400 kilometres of range in 20 minutes , depending on the vehicle.
- EnBW operates all fast-charging stations with 100 per cent green electricity.
