After WhatsApp, REWE is taking the next step in the digitalisation of offer communication via social media: the "REWE Savings Assistant". This is a chatbot that communicates with users in the private message area of Instagram and informs them about new coupons in the REWE app every week, among other things.
Direct messaging via Messenger is booming: one billion messages are exchanged between users and brands every day. And 75 per cent of social media users prefer direct messaging to engage with brands (1). These figures make the Instagram chatbot interesting for REWE - both for addressing customers on a more personal level and for communicating offers. In addition, more and more users perceive classic offer ads in the social media environment directly as advertising and quickly scroll past them because they do not invite enough interaction. The interactive chatbot, on the other hand, presents REWE offers and coupons within Instagram messages with a personalised approach. Users can rest assured that they won't miss any coupons in the REWE app, even without much effort.
It's easy to use on Instagram: go to "Send messages" on the REWE profile on Instagram, then click on the REWE savings assistant. Once started, the chatbot guides you through further communication and offers various options - from saving money and other app benefits to contacting customer service. Every Monday, the "Save money" field can be used to receive a notification about the REWE app coupons of the week so that customers can benefit from particularly attractive offers the next time they shop. The Instagram chatbot service complements the existing WhatsApp service. This service can be used on Sundays to receive the offers from your favourite store for the following week.

In the summer, REWE was the first major food retailer to announce that it would stop printing and distributing advertising brochures on 1 July 2023, but would instead significantly expand its product advertising via new and familiar media. The effect on the environment, climate and resource conservation is immense: the changeover will save more than 73,000 tonnes of paper, 70,000 tonnes of CO2, 1.1 million tonnes of water and 380 million kWh of energy per year.
The latter has become increasingly important, especially in the discussions about the future security of energy supply in Germany. The more than 200 REWE special offers will also be available every week in the future, only no longer in print, but in an environmentally friendly way, for example on digital channels in the REWE app, via WhatsApp or now also Instagram.
