Following the announcement that the printed flyer would be discontinued by summer 2023, REWE is now taking the next step in the digitalisation of its offers: From now on, customers can have the flyer of their favourite REWE store conveniently sent to their mobile phone - every Sunday via WhatsApp.
The fact that the service is very popular in Germany and enjoys high usage rates across all target groups makes it interesting for customer and offer communication. Prior to the nationwide launch, tests had shown that a digital flyer via WhatsApp met with great customer interest: Both the sign-up rates for the service itself, the opening rates and the time spent on the digital flyer proved this.
"REWE has been consistently committed to Sustainability in its corporate strategy for years and has been successively and successfully transforming its processes and offerings with this in mind. Above all by means of digitalisation - wherever there is added value for customers. With Meta and WhatsApp Business, we have found another good way to provide our customers with regional offers and relevant information in an easily accessible way," says Bastian Tassew, Head of CRM & Owned Media at REWE.
It's very easy to subscribe to the digital flyer free of charge: simply go to rewe.de/whatsapp and follow the instructions there. This ensures that customers first have to write to the WhatsApp service and only then can they find their preferred store and subscribe to the offers using their postcode or location. A simple "stop" is enough to cancel the weekly subscription and the service.
REWE recently announced that it will stop printing and distributing brochures on 1 July 2023, but will significantly expand its product advertising via new and well-known media. The effect on the environment, climate and resource conservation is immense: the changeover will save more than 73,000 tonnes of paper, 70,000 tonnes of CO2, 1.1 million tonnes of water and 380 million kWh of energy per year. The latter has become increasingly important, especially in light of the current debate about the future security of energy supply in Germany. Of course, the more than 200 REWE special offers will continue to be available every week in the future, just no longer in printed form, but in an environmentally friendly way, for example on digital channels in the REWE app or via WhatsApp.
