With our new test project "Knowledge Avatar", our colleagues at REWE digital are investigating the acceptance of hyper-realistic avatars and their possible applications. The first "test object" is goRobert - the digital twin of management member Robert Zores.
Digital twins of real people - created hyper-realistically with the help of AI and brought to life using hologram technology - are displayed as high-resolution 3D holograms in a "holobox" with the help of a "protohologram". The basis is a combination of the most realistic conversation possible and a multi-sensory experience.
The aim of the project is to gain long-term insights into the usefulness of avatars in everyday (working) life. Bots are already providing support in everyday life. Now they are being given a face. Our video shows what this can look like and how an avatar is created.
In the first step, the avatar called "goRobert" will be used in the onboarding process at REWE digital: Here, Robert Zores, member of the managing directors at REWE digital, or more precisely his digital twin, answers the questions of our new starters. He supports real human mentors, who of course continue to support the newcomers during their first few months. After all, despite all the enthusiasm for AI, teamwork and interpersonal relationships remain indispensable. The focus is on the question of how a constantly available avatar can support our colleagues with individual questions in everyday life.
"goRobert" has already successfully mastered the first rounds of questions. The results are extremely positive: the test users particularly like the fact that the avatar can be asked questions anonymously and without judgement, which may not always find a place in large groups during onboarding. These questions include, for example, personal concerns about childcare, further training opportunities or mental health programmes. As part of the ongoing test project, the REWE digital - DOIT Innovation Team is evaluating the potential, feasibility and social acceptance of the avatar with the aim of initiating further piloting with test users.

I love Rewe for the fact that we support and implement so many innovations! It's almost a bit like working in a research centre.
Is it currently possible to use goRobert? Where would you find it?
If you think about how many subject areas could be served 24/7... Great project!
Great project. Above all, that the focus remains on people.
frighteningly fascinating
It's great that Rewe sees this as an accompanying programme, analogue and digital complement each other, you always take the best from each world :)
