By placing it among the top 3 projects, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs recognised REWE's important commitment to the recruitment and integration of immigrant skilled workers.

In total, there were more than 500 submissions this year - 21 of which were nominated for seven categories. Elisabeth Promberger, Chairwoman of the Management at REWE Süd: "At best, migration and integration should go hand in hand. Sustainable labour market integration is the key to success. We are proud that with our KIMAT concept, we have already been able to show many refugees and people with a migration background a career opportunity in our company and successfully integrate them."

The integration of refugees and people with a migration background has long been a matter close to REWE Süd's heart and is being pursued by the company with various measures. The position of Integration Officer was created specifically for this purpose. Since 2016, Ibrahim Dourra Maiga has dedicated himself specifically to this group of applicants and employees. He played a leading role in developing the "KIMAT" concept, which is being implemented in the company with sustained commitment. "KIMAT" stands for "Conceptfor the Integrationof Migrantsinto the Labour Marketand Teams" and aims to find target group-specific entry opportunities for people in need of integration and to strengthen their subsequent smooth integration into the working environment. The constant contact with authorities and support organisations is an important interface work that pays off.

Diverse entry opportunities at REWE

in 2023, 87 refugees were hired to complete an apprenticeship at REWE stores. In collaboration with its cooperation partners, REWE offers employees with a migration background tutoring in the area of training, language courses and help with official matters such as work permits. Employees are also supported with social integration aspects such as finding accommodation or financial issues. Senior managers, in turn, receive comprehensive information and advice on employment opportunities for asylum seekers. Integration mentors in the stores ensure that employees have a direct contact person on site.

All of this helps to break down barriers, build employment relationships and make employees feel valued and comfortable in the company. Natalie Kol, Head of HR at REWE Süd: "A lot of work and passion has gone into this concept. That's why this nomination, alongside satisfied and happy employees, is an important recognition for our team. It shows that we are making a valuable contribution to the world of work and that it is worth continuing on this path."
