In the coming months, three more stores will launch autonomous check-out facilities. The REWE innovation project is also being celebrated at an international level: This year's "Future of European Commerce Award" goes to REWE Pick&Go in the "Digitalisation" category.
For two years now, the REWE Pick&Go test stores in Berlin, Cologne and Munich have been offering customers a special shopping experience: with REWE Pick&Go, purchases are recorded securely and with minimal data using state-of-the-art camera and sensor technology and automatically settled after leaving the store without a checkout process.
The feedback from our customers is consistently positive: they rate shopping with Pick&Go as quick, easy and secure. The first autonomous supermarket visit in particular is an exciting moment for many.
In the coming months, three more stores will launch autonomous check-out options, two in Hamburg and another in Düsseldorf. In the Hanseatic city, REWE is increasing the sales area of a Pick&Go store to around 1,200 square metres for the first time, thus offering checkout-free shopping in the largest store area in Germany. With the expansion of the test stores, REWE Pick&Go now has a total sales area of around 4,500 square metres throughout Germany.
Customers also have a choice in the three new stores
As in the hybrid stores in Cologne and Berlin, customers in the three new test stores can also choose between shopping via Pick&Go and traditional payment at the checkout. Since December 2022, the first Pick&Go store with fully autonomous check-out as the only payment option has also been online in Munich.
Anika Vooes and Jana Sanktjohanser
The REWE innovation project is also celebrated on an international level: This year's "Future of European Commerce Award" goes to REWE Pick&Go in the "Digitalisation" category. The award jury praised the "ground-breaking innovation project with a transformative effect in retail while complying with the General Data Protection Regulation". Project Manager Jana Sanktjohanser (REWE Markt) and Chief Acceleration Manager Anika Vooes (REWE digital) attended the award ceremony in Brussels and accepted the award on behalf of the entire Pick&Go team.
