
Andreas Schmidt, CEO of REWE Dortmund, has decided not to extend his contract again and will leave the company at the end of 2023. Hanno Rieger - currently Chairman of the Management Board of REWE Region West - will succeed him.
Andreas Schmidt (60), CEO of REWE Dortmund since 2014, has decided not to extend his contract once it has been fulfilled. He will leave the company at the end of 2023 and will be succeeded by Hanno Rieger (54), currently Chairman of the Management Board of REWE Region West. He will be succeeded by Lars Klein (42), who previously worked as Managing Director Customer Interaction & Buying at Aldi Süd.
Andreas Schmidt worked very successfully for REWE for 46 years. He began his training as a retail salesman at Petz Verwaltungs- und Beteiligungs GmbH, Wissen, in 1977 and moved to REWE Markt GmbH in 1984, where he worked as a store manager until 1988. From 1988 to 2001, he was sales manager in wholesale for several REWE trading companies before becoming head of wholesale in the northern region until 2003. He then moved to the South West region as Head of Wholesale, which he took over in 2006. Until 2014, he was head of the REWE Southwest region based in Wiesloch and also a member of the national management of REWE Germany. he then moved to the Management Board of REWE Dortmund in 2014 and became Chairman of the Management Board following the departure of Heinz-Bert Zander, who had been Chairman of the Management Board for many years. He has now decided not to extend his contract any further and is leaving the company at the end of the year.

Last but not least, he has navigated the company and team with a steady hand through a variety of external and internal changes. We respect his decision not to extend his contract again, thank him sincerely for all that he has done for REWE Dortmund and wish him all the best for the rest of his life," said Stefan Lenk, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Hanno Rieger (55), Chairman of the Management Board of REWE Region West, will take over the position of CEO from Andreas Schmidt. Rieger joined REWE in 2014 and succeeded Andreas Schmidt as Chairman of the Management Board Southwest when he moved to his current position at REWE Dortmund. rieger then moved to the West region in 2018. He can look back on a long career in food retail, including several years at Migros. From 2000 to 2013, he held several regional and international management positions at Lidl, including CEO in Slovenia and Austria. Lenk continues: "We are looking forward to working with Hanno Rieger, he will enrich our REWE Dortmund with his experience, empathy and new impulses."
Rieger will be succeeded by Lars Klein (42) as Chairman of the Management Board of REWE Region West. In this function, Klein will report to Peter Maly, REWE Group Management Board member and COO REWE. Lars Klein has many years of experience in the food retail sector. He worked in various management roles in the sales department before moving to Aldi Süd as Group Buying Director in Central Purchasing. As Managing Director Buying, he later took over responsibility for Central Purchasing, before becoming Managing Director Customer Interaction in charge of Marketing, Communications, Sustainability and E-Commerce. "With Lars Klein, we have succeeded in gaining an excellent food retail expert for the management of REWE Region West, who will continue the successful development of the region and enrich it with new impulses," says Peter Maly.
