Christmas dinner for the needy
Every year, the REWE Group invites people from Cologne who are not doing so well to a Christmas dinner in the fine Gürzenich ballroom. For organiser Christian Pagano, this is a matter close to his heart every year. And for the employees who volunteer to help, it's an experience they won't soon forget.
nahkauf helps children in need
In its anniversary year, nahkauf remains true to its good tradition and donates 300,000 euros to Bild hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder". The most efficient fundraisers among the nahkauf retailers were there live in Berlin when the sum was announced in front of an audience of millions.
Employee donation project
It has become a matter close to the hearts of DERTOUR employees: the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) sniffer dog project to protect wild animals in southern Africa. The colleagues support the training of the furry friends with great donations. We spoke to Tammy Baker, Business Development Officer at EWT, about the incredible performance of the dogs and the importance of the project.
"Piece for happiness"
The "Stück zum Glück" initiative from Aktion Mensch, REWE and Procter & Gamble has inaugurated an inclusive playground in Cottbus together with the Fürst-Pückler-Museum Park and Castle Branitz Foundation. In attendance: over 100 children playing.
Aid for Haiti
Haiti continues to sink into chaos. The political vacuum is being filled by armed gangs who are fighting against each other and against the state - but above all against the people of this bitterly poor country. Displacement, violence, hunger and closed educational institutions naturally hit the weakest groups the hardest: Children and young people. One asked the head of Kindernothilfe Haiti, Pierre-Hugue Augustin, how the children's aid projects supported by REWE Group and its employees are doing.
PENNY International
PENNY International's Wishing Tree campaign was so well received that the employees in Cologne are now extending the donation campaign for senior citizens to the whole year.
Lekkerland
Every December, Works Council Chairwoman Yvonne Zoske-Albrecht collects donations for a children's hospice at the Lekkerland logistics centre in Hamburg - and many colleagues take part.
A heart for children
The "Ein Herz für Kinder" gala on the second Saturday of Advent live on ZDF attracted millions of viewers - and a star-studded line-up to the TV studio. Among the celebrities on the red carpet: a delegation of charitable nahkauf retailers.
Educational opportunities for disadvantaged children and a home for dogs: two examples of Billa's social commitment in Austria and Bulgaria
PENNY International
REWE Group is also committed to social issues internationally. Three examples from PENNY, in Hungary, Italy and Romania, demonstrate this impressively.
Christmas dinner for the needy
Once again this year, REWE Group invited around 800 people in need to a Christmas dinner in the ballroom of Cologne's traditional Gürzenich venue. Among them: employees who actively helped to make the party unforgettable for the guests. But it was also unforgettable for them, as five colleagues tell us.
DER Travel and Tourism Foundation
In South Africa, wildlife sniffer dogs not only sniff out horn or ivory, but also firearms and ammunition. The DER Travel and Tourism Foundation supports this project. We asked Kathrin Sommer, Sustainability Manager at DER Travel and Tourism Group, and ETW Conservation Manager Lourens Leeuwner - he works with the dogs on site.
Aid for Haiti
Since 2016, Kindernothilfe Haiti has been awarding study scholarships to talented graduates of the Collège Véréna, which are funded by REWE Group donations. Johanne, Leonardo and Maurice were among the first scholarship recipients, and all three are now looking to the future with confidence - their own and that of their country.
Toom and Little Home e.V.
Since 2018, toom has been supporting the Little Home e.V. association in building mini-homes for homeless people. Especially now, when it is dark and dreary outside, the residents of the Little Homes are happy to receive little things that are decorative and useful, such as cushions, blankets or torches. toom is therefore donating 40 care packages to Little Home.
BILLA Bulgaria
Billa Bulgaria continues its social commitment to support blind people in Bulgaria and donates portable reading devices to visually impaired young students.
This December, our "Charity" series once again presents examples of corporate social commitment from Business Areas, departments and individual employees. At the start of the series, we shed light on why doing good on a voluntary basis is good for everyone.
