
Billa Bulgaria continues its social commitment to support blind people in Bulgaria and donates portable reading devices to visually impaired young students.
For the second time in a year, Billa Bulgaria has donated special laptops and innovative reading devices to visually impaired young people. Billa's partnership with the country's Association of the Blind began in 2015 and so far the company has provided benefits totalling almost BGN 90,000 to support 2,500 visually impaired people, the equivalent of around EUR 46,000.
With the support of BILLA Bulgaria, blind young people not only receive the appropriate technical equipment, but also recognition and the potential for further development in the academic field. The three students selected to receive the devices have shown a high level of motivation and strong performance in their respective fields of study. All three are studying Humanities - English Philology, Korean Philology and Journalism.
The Pearl handheld devices, which are adapted to the daily needs of the visually impaired, enable instant access to printed texts through scanning. Thanks to the technology, texts from books, newspapers, magazines, invoices and financial documents can be read. In the Bulgarian version of the programme, the texts are spoken by popular voice actors in the country.

For the second time in the last year, the chain donated specialised laptops and innovative reading devices to visually impaired young people. Billa's partnership with the Blind Union was launched in 2015 and so far the company has provided grants worth nearly BGN 90,000 to support 2,500 visually impaired people.
With the chain's support, blind youngsters not only receive technological tools, but also recognition for their successes and potential for advancement in academia. The three students selected to receive the devices have demonstrated strong motivation and high achievement in their field of study. All three are majoring in humanities disciplines-English philology, Korean philology, and journalism.
