Educational opportunities for disadvantaged children and a home for dogs: two examples of BILLA's social commitment in Austria and Bulgaria

BILLA Austria: Learning makes school
BILLA Austria is committed to improving the education of children and young people who are disadvantaged due to their social background. School and education determine professional and personal success. BILLA and BILLA PLUS are committed to equal opportunities, especially for girls and young women, with their "Lernen macht Schule" initiative. BILLA and BILLA PLUS, together with the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and Caritas Vienna, are therefore committed to equal opportunities, especially for girls and young women, with their "Lernen macht Schule" initiative. Since 2010, around 250 socially disadvantaged children and young people have been mentored by students as learning, music and sports buddies each semester. A win-win situation for both, as not only the children but also the students broaden their skills and horizons through this cooperation.

 

BILLA Bulgaria: Donations for shelter dogs
BILLA Bulgaria and its customers donated more than 1.2 tonnes of food for shelter dogs. The joint initiative by Billa and the "Gang of 1500" foundation aimed to support two municipal dog shelters in Bulgaria's capital Sofia. Some of the products collected were distributed in starter packs to families willing to take in a shelter dog. In addition to collecting donations, some of the BILLA customers in Sofia were able to meet volunteers from the organisation during the campaign, who shared their experiences and knowledge about the benefits and challenges of adopting a dog from a shelter.

BILLA Austria: Learning Makes School
BILLA Austria is committed to improving the education of children and young people who are disadvantaged due to their social background. School and education determine professional and private success. In Austria, in particular, educational opportunities are influenced by social background. BILLA and BILLA PLUS, therefore, commit to the initiative "Learning Makes School", together with the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and Caritas Vienna, to advocate for equal opportunities, especially for girls and young women. Since 2010, about 250 socially disadvantaged children and adolescents have been assisted per semester by students as learning, music, and sports buddies. It's a win-win situation for both parties, as not just the children, but also the students, expand their competencies and horizons through this cooperation.

BILLA Bulgaria: Donation for shelter dogs
BILLA and its customers donated more than 1.2 tons of food for shelter dogs.
The joint initiative of Billa and the "Gang of 1500" foundation aimed to support two urban dog shelters in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia. Part of the collected products will be distributed in starter packs that will go to families willing to become adoptive parents, and the rest will be used for the needs of the two shelters.in addition to collecting donations, during the campaign some of BILLA's customers in Sofia were able to meet volunteers from the organisation who shared their experience and knowledge about the benefits and challenges of adopting a dog from a shelter.

In its anniversary year, nahkauf remains true to its good tradition and donates 300,000 euros to Bild hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder". The most efficient fundraisers among the nahkauf retailers were there live in Berlin when the sum was announced in front of an audience of millions.

The "Stück zum Glück" initiative from Aktion Mensch, REWE and Procter & Gamble has inaugurated an inclusive playground in Cottbus together with the Fürst-Pückler-Museum Park and Castle Branitz Foundation. In attendance: over 100 children playing.
