REWE Group is also committed to social issues internationally. Three examples from PENNY, in Hungary, Italy and Romania, demonstrate this impressively.
To mark Children's Day, PENNY Hungary supported the International Children's Rescue Service aid organisation with product and financial donations. The aid organisation and PENNY Hungary have already worked together several times to improve the everyday lives of children and disadvantaged families. This year, PENNY supported the Children's Day programme organised by the association with a product donation worth one million forints (approx. 2,800 euros). In addition, several PENNY employees volunteered to help organise the two-day, free event.
"Social responsibility has played a key role at PENNY from the very beginning, and an essential part of this is donations and help, not only at company level but also at employee level. We are constantly looking for ways to do good and help children in need and their families. We are proud to be working with several support organisations this year to mark Children's Day. In addition to product and monetary donations, we are also helping with volunteer work thanks to our employees. In this way, even if only for a few days, we can brighten the lives of those who need it most," said Eszter Kazatsay, Head of Communications at PENNY in Hungary.
Children's Day is not PENNY Hungary's only commitment. The company supports the work of the Csodalámpa Foundation with a donation of one million forints, which was used to fulfil the wishes of three seriously ill children. Every year, the Csodalámpa Foundation fulfils the wishes of almost three hundred children between the ages of three and 18 with life-threatening illnesses who receive medical treatment in Hungary. In its twenty years of existence, they have been able to do this 4,725 times thanks to donors like PENNY. And the moments of joy created in this way can contribute significantly to the children's positive mental state, giving seriously ill children a chance and hope in the healing process.
PENNY Italy supported the Italian Red Cross (IRK) with a campaign in October: when paying for their purchases at any PENNY outlet, customers could choose to round up the amount to the nearest euro. For example, if they spent €6.23, they could decide to round up to €7 and donate €0.77 to the Italian Red Cross.
With this new #ARROTONDAEDONA (round up and donate), PENNY reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility, alongside partners such as the Red Cross, whose value is universally recognised. PENNY thus offers customers a simple and measured way to support those who - like the Italian Red Cross - are always ready to protect lives. PENNY Italia has been supporting the Red Cross for years, especially in the most critical moments, and in these cases also calls on its own customers to do the same.
Healthcare for pregnant women, young mothers and newborns in rural areas with poor infrastructure is the aim of the "Health for Every Community" initiative by PENNY Romania and Save the Children. Two loyalty campaigns enabled customers to buy cuddly toys, with 1 RON (Romanian leu, approx. 0.21 euros) going to Save the Children for education and health projects.
In collaboration with Save the Children and the voluntary support of doctors from the Doctors Caravan Association, PENNY offered free consultations, ultrasounds and information events on health during pregnancy and newborn care in three structurally weak communities.
The campaign, which was also communicated on social media channels and via influencers, reached 2,500 girls and women from rural communities and newborn babies, giving them a healthy start in life with their mothers. The YouTube videos, for example, were viewed well over a million times, and there were also over 30,000 clicks on the penny.ro website.
