PENNY supports the fight against blood cancer
by Julia Robertz

1.FSV Mainz 05 supported a DKMS typing campaign as part of a Christmas party. As the main sponsor of the Mainz 05 kids' club, PENNY Region Südwest made a donation to the campaign.

The fight against blood cancer depends on people's willingness to register as donors. This is because every registered potential stem cell donor increases the likelihood of people suffering from blood cancer being given a second chance at life through a suitable stem cell donation. For this reason, 1.FSV Mainz 05 supported a major typing campaign in collaboration with the German Bone Marrow Donor Centre (DKMS) as part of its Christmas party at the beginning of December in the Mainz stadium.

Visitors were able to register as potential stem cell donors. Tissue samples were taken from the inside of their cheeks with cotton swabs for registration. FSV's professional footballers and their coaches and trainers had previously set a good example and most of them had already registered. The players also donated money to support the DKMS in its work. Employees from the PENNY Southwest region also took the opportunity to register and thus save lives as potential stem cell donors.

The PENNY South West region took part with a stand at a Christmas market, which was set up under the grandstand. The PENNY team sold Doceur own-brand sweets there and was even supported at times by 1. FSV Mainz 05 professional player Anthony Casci. The entire proceeds from the sale (500 euros) were topped up to 1,000 euros by the PENNY South West region and donated to the DKMS.
