Every day, around 10 million customers across Germany stop at a petrol station. An enormous potential for which Lekkerland offers professional solutions and recently presented them at the petrol station trade fair.
According to a forecast by npdgroup deutschland GmbH, the out-of-home segment will grow by around 37 per cent this year. Good prospects - also for petrol station shops. "In order to take advantage of the associated growth opportunities and inspire consumers, it is important that petrol station shops continue to develop," says Philipp Pauly, Senior Vice President Energy Stations & Convenience Stores at Lekkerland, who is responsible for cooperation with petroleum companies.
Successful appearance - the Lekkerland team at the petrol station trade fair in Stuttgart
At Uniti expo, the leading European trade fair for the petrol station and car wash industry, held in Stuttgart in mid-May, Lekkerland showcased specific solutions that petrol station shops can use to exploit growth opportunities. One focus was on food service and coffee solutions, as drinks, especially coffee, and snacks are an important growth driver in out-of-home consumption.
Detailed location analyses help petrol station operators to find the right product range for their shop; shelf modules with private labels from REWE and Lekkerland ensure that operators can supplement their range with the right products.
And when buying snacks at the petrol station, customers are placing more and more value on a more conscious diet. Lekkerland is responding to this with its own brand "Go Fresh" for fresh and ready-to-eat snacks. The colleagues also presented initial plans for a reusable cup system. The background to this is also the packaging law that will apply from 2023: from 2023, anyone selling takeaway coffee in the out-of-home sector will have to offer the hot drink in a reusable cup - in addition to a possible disposable version.
One of the main attractions at Lekkerland's trade fair stand was the "Smart Automat": this fully automated shop solution, which was presented to the public for the first time, allows consumers to select and pay for products via touchscreen and then take them away. The smart store solution is designed to offer consumers the opportunity to buy groceries on the go around the clock, seven days a week. As part of the pilot phase, the concept will soon be used and tested at a publicly accessible location.
