The new REWE To Go smart kiosk in Porz.
Smarter REWE To Go in Porz
Food for the nerves and free coffee
by Ingo Gschwilm

Lekkerland has opened the first unmanned REWE To Go at a REWE location on Humboldtstraße in Cologne-Porz. The self-checkout store is available to employees and visitors.

REWE colleagues in Cologne-Porz now have a new place to go for snacks, refreshments and small rewards. A few days ago, Lekkerland opened an unmanned REWE To Go at the location. Customers can pay independently and cashless using the self-checkout process. Customers don't have to pay for coffee, as this is free of charge.

The offer is aimed at employees and visitors to the REWE site in Porz. "Collaboration worked really well"
The "Smart Kiosk" was created in almost record time over the past few weeks in close collaboration between teams from Lekkerland and REWE. "The collaboration worked really well and was a lot of fun," says Eric Bodes, Manager Smart Store Development from the Lekkerland development team. He and Levent Kani, Sales Project Manager from the sales team, were responsible for realising the shop. Around 3,000 employees work in Porz; most of them belong to REWE digital. REWE customers and visitors can buy drinks, fresh snacks such as salads and sandwiches, as well as snacks and confectionery in the shop. The 32 square metre shop also offers selected products for everyday needs. Among the more than 300 items are also some REWE brands.

Payments are made cashless at the self-checkout - except for coffee, which is free. Self-checkout solution has proven its worth
In addition to the REWE To Go store, the company canteen is available to employees as usual. This was previously supplemented by a bakery, which has recently closed.

Further shops planned
The Lekkerland self-checkout solution "Smart Kiosk" can currently be found in four hospitals and in some Lekkerland logistics centres. It has proven itself as a smart store solution for semi-public areas and will be opening at several more locations in Germany this year.

Unfortunately, the shop has overshot the mark a little in its pricing. I had hoped that you could buy a few snacks or sweets there every day, but you'll be poor there.

I find it extremely disappointing that the kiosk doesn't actually offer any (fresh) baked goods at all, no bread rolls, no pastries, no cakes, etc. Of course, it was clear that there wouldn't be a portfolio comparable to that of the bakery, but pre-packed sandwiches and butter biscuits are no alternative for me at all.

@ Lisa & Tobi I can't agree with you. I think the new breakfast in the casino is much better than before in the bistro and the price is comparable. Lunch is still ok, at fair prices. And the REWE to go is a good addition with a much larger range than before. It's a shame that the employee discount doesn't work there yet, but I've heard that's about to change.

The coffee was already free before, so this repeated mention is rather pointless, it doesn't make the shop any better. I can only agree with Tobi, it's a shame that the bakery had to go.

Unfortunately extremely unattractive in terms of price and quality compared to the previous bakery
