World record for homeless people

100 people build 10 mini houses in 10 hours: The "Little Home" association invited people to Berlin in mid-August to attempt this world record. The winners are the homeless people who will now benefit from the little houses.

The "Little Home" association called for the world record with the aim of providing as many people in need of help as possible with a roof over their heads and at the same time raising awareness of the problems of homelessness as part of the world record. Under the watchful eye of the Record Institute Germany, 100 helpers formed ten teams to achieve the world record. Two teams from Toom, the organisation's long-standing partner, also took part.

The record attempt involved sawing, hammering, screwing and painting in the Toom car park in Berlin-Friedrichshain. A total of 100 people assembled twelve pallets of OSB boards, 30 kilograms of screws, 50 litres of paint and 800 wooden strips to create ten 3.2 square metre houses for the record - all within ten hours.

With these mini houses, the "Little Home" association offers people without shelter an initial place to retreat, a newfound sense of privacy and a well-organised starting point for a life back in society. In Germany alone, a total of 256,000 people were homeless in 2020. 220 housing units are already in use across Germany and are now being supplemented by the ten new world record houses.
