Guidelines on gendering adopted
This is how we create linguistic equality

It is a much-discussed topic on which we at REWE Group are now taking a clear stance: Gender-equitable language. There is a clear goal behind this that we also identify with. We want to address all employees - regardless of their gender identity.

All people are equal. This should apply in everyday life as well as in language. Because language creates reality, it reflects ideas, thoughts and attitudes. For many years, the masculine form was considered the standard in linguistic usage. However, for some years now, linguists and experts have been pointing out that "mitgemeint" does not mean "mitgemeint". In other words, anyone who says that the masculine form includes all other gender identities is still creating a reality in language that only includes men.

Linguistic equality is an important step towards sensitising people for more equality and appreciation in all situations, less prejudice and more solidarity. The guidelines for gender-equitable language are intended to provide assistance here.

And ultimately, it's not that complicated or awkward. In many cases, neutral words can be chosen. Staff, employees, participants, attendees are just a few examples. Gender-neutral paraphrases can also often be used. If necessary, the colon is used, as in consumers or colleagues.

The guidelines offer practical examples and formulation suggestions. However, it is also intended to be a living document into which new variants and, where necessary, further clarifications are constantly being incorporated.

i am therefore pleased that we are increasingly using the English language in IT, as there is no distinction here. Unless, of course, someone thinks that one "user", for example, doesn't mean everyone ;-)
