Meat stars and talents 2022
Great talents and silent stars
by Achim Bachhausen

Outstanding counter teams and strong young talent: the "Meat Star 2022" industry competition offered plenty of excitement and the race was close. In the end, the entire product group won.

A milestone birthday: the who's who of the industry came together for the 30th time at the meat congress organised by the trade magazine Lebensmittelpraxis (LP) on Petersberg near Bonn. After the conference section, the best meat and sausage service counters in the country were honoured - many of them from REWE stores.

The Fleisch Star is awarded in three categories for small, medium-sized and large stores. An expert jury selects the winning stores in each category from three nominees who have already been chosen from a large number of applications.

It came out on top against Remstal-Markt Mack in Weinstadt and Edeka-Frischecenter Brüggemeier in Kleve.

In the small sales area category, the teams from the REWE supermarket in Gräfelfing and in Grünwald made it to the final. Among the three nominees in the large sales area category: the counter team from the Rainer Quermann REWE centre in Bielefeld.

Huge cheers for the next generation

Meat star talent Michelle Schlesinger with team-mates from Sulzbach The award ceremony for this year's Meat Star talents provided some emotional moments: On stage, young talents Michelle Schlesinger (REWE Kleinwallstadt/Hofstetten) and Christin Triebull (REWE Hamburg) were delighted with their second place, as were Hannah Bauernfeind (REWE Centre Cologne-Weidenpesch), Max Fehrekampf (REWE Düsseldorf-Rath) and Philipp Jeschke (REWE Centre Alzenau), who took third place. All finalists can look forward to cash prizes.

REWE Kramer

Brought the trophy home: the meat sales professionals led by Ralf Kramer (with certificate) The counter at REWE Kramer in Recklinghausen offers a wide variety of meat and sausage specialities. There is Irish and US beef as well as crossbred Duroc pork from local farmers. For barbecue fans, there is a drive-in service and a smoker on the farm, which master butcher Franz Sander uses for events.

REWE supermarket Grünwald

Grünwald is the posh suburb of Munich. The purchasing power of its customers is one of the highest in Germany. The demands on the meat counter are correspondingly high. Cases three and four are in demand here, as is steak variety. In addition to fillet, entrecote and roast beef, there are also cap of rump and thick flank steaks.

REWE supermarket Gräfelfing

The Rewe supermarket impresses with a variety of national, international and regional products. Whether it's Alpine ox from Austria, Scotland Hills steak cuts, Irish dry-aged or US beef, lamb from New Zealand or Nature & Respect and Loué from France - the variety of meat knows almost no bounds.

REWE Centre Quermann

Whether artistically designed wall panels or skilful product presentations - shopping at Rewe Quermann in Bielefeld is a pleasure, as the store is tastefully designed down to the last detail. There is also a top meat counter with an international selection of steaks, six maturing cabinets and a regional active pig.
