Colourful, loud and cheerful

An exuberant atmosphere on the REWE Group float at the Cologne CSD: over 200 colleagues from REWE Group celebrated diversity last Sunday (9 July) during the demonstration procession through the city centre.

Heat and storm warnings could not spoil the mood of well over a million people. That's how many came to ColognePride in Cologne this year. Right in the middle of it all: REWE Group with a float and over 200 employees. "Our group was a colourful mix of colleagues from the LGBTIQ community, family and friends," says di.to spokesperson Tobias Koch. "Once again, it was a great REWE Group community that celebrated our diversity together," added Martina Weinhold, also a di.to spokesperson. "And everyone stuck it out despite the heat and severe weather warnings," says di.to spokesperson Anna Pavlitschek happily.

This year's colourful demonstration was longer than ever before with 224 foot groups and started punctually at 12 noon on Deutzer Brücke. From there, the route went through the city centre via the Schildergasse shopping mile to Rudolfplatz and on via Friesenplatz towards the Rhine to the main railway station. In view of the sweltering heat and the severe weather warning, the organisers always had the safety of the demonstrators in mind. In the meantime, the stage programme was briefly interrupted due to the severe weather warning. This did not dampen the parade or the good mood. Together with REWE and PENNY, REWE Group was one of the main sponsors of ColognePride this time and was therefore present at the events in Cologne from 24 June until the CSD parade. REWE Group has been taking part in the CSD with a foot group and float since 2015. At the start, our current CEO Lionel Souque was also on the float. Diversity is still important to him today: "I am convinced that we can only make progress as a company and as a society if we recognise diversity as a necessity and a strength. We live this at REWE Group and I am very proud to have been a sponsor of our LGBTIQ network di.to from the very beginning."

This year, REWE Group is positioning itself even more clearly and is expanding its support for the CSDs taking place nationwide to the cities of Leipzig, Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg. Click here for more information.

A good opportunity to emphasise my respect and advocacy for the Group's diversity culture. I am delighted with the self-image and the great consistency with which the flag is being flown here and I am naturally happy to support this attitude. Many thanks to all those responsible. #Ally
