Award for REWE Group
Award for employee support
by Bettina Rees

REWE Group has received the Otto Heinemann Prize for its commitment to reconciling work and family life. In particular, the award, which was presented at the Berlin Care Conference, recognised the comprehensive services we offer our employees to support them with the multiple burdens of work and caring for family members.

Anyone who works and at the same time looks after a relative in need of care can tell you a thing or two about the exhausting multiple burdens. Companies such as the REWE Group know how important it is to have support from the employer and have therefore developed a comprehensive programme to help employees cope with this multiple burden. At the 9th Berlin Care Conference, the company was awarded the Otto Heinemann Prize for reconciling care and work in the category "more than 1,000 employees".

REWE Group's broad and nationwide commitment to reconciling work and care is based on several programmes that are open to all employees. On the one hand, there are the low-threshold offers from colleagues for colleagues, including the LoS! multipliers and the job & family (BuF) mentors. In addition, "professionals" offer professional (awo lifebalance) and psychological (BAD stress counselling sessions) support. Regular and comprehensive information is provided via all internal and external communication channels, from Inside and one to employee radios and the digital health platform Gemeinsam.topfit. Last but not least, the company agreement on care laid the foundation for the diverse commitment. And certification in accordance with the job and family audit ensures that the planned measures for a life-phase-conscious employee policy are implemented

Offers of help for all aspects of care

awo lifebalance: The nationwide service offered by Arbeiterwohlfahrt e.V. consists of free counselling and help in finding a qualified care facility for children and relatives in need of care. Free of charge and anonymous, the employer is not informed of the contents of the counselling.

LoS! multipliers: Whether an emergency situation in the family, psychological problems, financial difficulties or other personal burdens that interfere with everyday working life: Anyone who needs help, tips or simply a sympathetic ear can turn to a colleague who has been trained as a LoS! multiplier. This offer is unique in the REWE Group corporate landscape and has also been recognised with awards.

We also offer our employees support from psychologists, company doctors and company addiction counsellors to help them cope with their everyday professional and private lives. And to ensure that health does not fall by the wayside, not least in the face of multiple workloads or the "normal madness", there is the cancer prevention programme "You are important" and a variety of sports, exercise and nutrition programmes.

You can also find out more in inside, on the REWE Group's health platform, Gemeinsam.topfit, on notice boards and, last but not least, from our colleagues in national health management.

Since 2015, the Otto Heinemann Prize, awarded by the healthcare provider SpectrumK and the association of company health insurance funds BKK Dachverband e.V. and the health insurance fund IKK, has honoured companies and institutions that provide their employees with exemplary solutions. The competition is under the patronage of Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck. The jury from the worlds of business and healthcare honours employers in three categories based on employee size. This year's prize was awarded on 9 November at the Berlin Nursing Conference. Otto Heinemann (1864 - 1944) was a leading functionary of the company health insurance scheme and the father of the third Federal President, Gustav Heinemann.
