From the still important aid for flood victims in the Ahr region to aid in Ukraine: the REWE and nahkauf teams have supported people in need in a variety of ways throughout the year. one presents some exemplary campaigns from the last few weeks of the year.
"Children need a lot of help," says Duc Viet Nguyen, a REWE shop assistant on Ernststraße in Berlin-Tegel and a father himself. Of course, the sentence refers less to his own sons than to those boys and girls with whom fate has been less kind. Viet and two other REWE stores in Borsighalle and Gorkisstraße have fulfilled their wishes. "Shower kit, a book or new painting utensils - most of the wishes are very modest," Viet realised, which encouraged him all the more to do what he did, as it shows how little the children and young people have. 35 stars, each with a wish, were waiting on the Christmas tree for customers to fulfil them. In no time at all, 30 were sold out, so the REWE salesman called for more.
Together with the two other REWE stores, 120 Christmas wishes for the residents of two children's homes were fulfilled just in time for the festive season. The enterprising store team in Ernststraße also generated a very positive customer response with the "Children for Children" charity auction, in which works of art were auctioned off for a good cause. "We raised 650 euros that day and in the following week," reports Duc Viet Nguyen proudly, who added another 500 euros from his own pocket for each of the two children's homes. "Some customers donated money just like that, without even taking home the artifact."
The "Biker Triker Freunde ohne Grenzen Selfkant e.V." (BTFoG), "Hitradio 100,5" and the REWE supermarket on Sittarder Straße in Gangelt provided an unforgettable sight.
True to the motto "Top, the bet is on...", the store, the radio station and the association had previously placed a bet on whether the BTFoG would manage to gather 100 motorcyclists, trike, quad, sidecar or scooter riders in disguise in the car park of the REWE store. On the second weekend of Advent, the time had finally come: a total of 267 "Santas" rode up on their machines on Saturday. Thanks to their commitment and the winning bet, the association was able to hand over donations totalling 1,500 euros to Heinsberger Tafel e.V. and Tafel Selfkant.
Forget price increases and have more room for manoeuvre when shopping? When the slogan "SWR3 helps - carefree shopping" rang out on the radio, it was time to prick up your ears: REWE Südwest and the regional radio station were giving away 25 shopping vouchers worth 1,000 euros each to people who, for various reasons, have to turn over every euro. One example is apprentice Luise-Marie, who works as a waitress three times a week to make ends meet. She is preparing for her exams and doesn't know how to juggle work, a part-time job and studying. The 1,000 euros are a huge relief for her. "I want to buy lots of fresh fruit first," reveals the winner. Listener Pia is also delighted: a heating system replacement ate up part of her life insurance. 1.000 stones fall from listener Mark's heart when he hears about his win. He talks about his double rent burden due to a last-minute move and hefty service charge back payments. "That's amazing," he says happily. The charity campaign struck a chord: more listeners applied on the station's website than for any other SWR3 campaign so far this year.
In mid-November, REWE and the "Unser Norden" foundation handed over a donation cheque worth 10,000 euros to the Arche in Hamburg: "Die Arche" Kinderstiftung Christl. Kinder- und Jugendwerk has been looking after children from disadvantaged families or poor backgrounds since 2004. In the Hanseatic city, around one in five children is affected, and the trend is rising. Many parents lack the money for regular meals, clothes and toys. If there are also problems in the family, the boys and girls are often left completely on their own. The representatives of SOS Kinderdorf e. V. were also delighted to receive 5,000 euros in donations. The foundation is committed to helping children, young people and senior citizens and supports numerous projects in the fields of art, culture and sport. The donation enables the SOS Children's Village to offer places for a voluntary social year.
