Today, the rainbow flag is being hoisted in front of markets and administrative locations across Germany: 17 May is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). The flag symbolises the diversity of all forms of life and love.
Rainbow flags as a symbol that everyone has the legal right to live how and love who they want: Last year, many REWE Group Central locations and stores decided to fly the flags not only for IDAHOBIT on 17 May, but - as an even clearer sign of diversity and tolerance - all year round. This is why di.to, the LGTBIQ network of the REWE Group, has come up with another campaign for this day: Rainbow-coloured postcards with statements that aim to make people think in a humorous way will be on display at numerous Central locations. There are five questions on the postcards, including: "When did you tell your team you were straight?" or "When did you decide you were straight?" Martina Weinhold, national di.to. spokesperson: "Everyone in the queer community has heard many questions and statements umpteen times. We have now turned the tables to emphasise how nonsensical and sometimes hurtful such statements can be."
this year, di.to will be taking part in CSDs in Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt and, for the first time, Leipzig and Berlin. A highlight for the network will be the celebration of the 10th anniversary of di.to. on 18 August in Cologne.
If you are interested in taking part, or have any questions or suggestions, please email dito@rewe-group.com.

Why the rainbow flag?
The rainbow flag is the flag of the LGBTQI* community as a symbol of freedom for all sexual orientations and forms of gender identity. It was designed in 1978 by the American artist Gilbert Baker for Gay Freedom Day 1978, the forerunner of later Gay Prides. Each colour has its own meaning: pink for sexuality, red for life...
