André Scheibel is one of the protagonists of the new REWE employer campaign. one spoke to the newly qualified businessman about his job and how he balances it with his life as a family man.
one: How long have you been working at REWE?
André Scheibel : I started at extra in 2003, extra was then taken over by REWE. I was a store manager for eleven years and now I'm a salesman.
one: How has your personal situation changed over the years and affected your work?
André Scheibel : My personal situation has changed several times. I shortened my training and I realised early on that I wanted to take on a management position. Right from the start, I enjoyed dealing with people and the work, which is exactly what I want to do. I originally come from near Cuxhaven and was asked during the transition whether I would like to move to REWE. I did and have lived in Hamburg ever since. My partner joined me later. That's how it continued: I went from assistant in training to store manager, then to salesman. A lot has also happened in my private life in recent years. I now have two daughters, and I deliberately took parental leave for both of them.
In the market, fathers' parental leave can be integrated into holiday planning, says André Scheibel

one: How were you able to manage parental leave professionally?
André Scheibel: I'm a big fan of parental leave. I support every employee who approaches me. There are many fathers in my store who have already taken parental leave and we have always been able to plan this well. I simply integrate it into the holiday planning. It has always worked well for me in the team. I personally think it's very important. With my first child, I took parental leave again when my daughter was ten months old. During that time, she sat down, took her first steps and I was able to experience a lot of things. For me personally, it's very important as a family man and I support anyone who wants to take parental leave.
one: What does your life look like outside of work?
André Scheibel: I am very organised and flexible. I have an assistant who likes to work the late shift. As I like to get up early myself, this suits me and I can spend time with the family in the afternoons and evenings and put the little one to bed. I start in the morning and am home around 5 pm.
one: What do you like to do with your family?
André Scheibel : We bought a house with a large plot of land five years ago and enjoy being at home. My balance is gardening. I am a very patient and calm person. When you plant something in the garden, you also need patience, and that reflects me a little. We also enjoy gardening as a family. We bought a house from the 1970s and do a lot of the work ourselves. If there's still time, we drive around in our caravan, especially in Germany. We like camping because the children spend a lot of time outdoors and there are other people around who are just like us. The children run around on the road and can make lots of contacts very quickly. If you like it, you like it and you enjoy it.
one: What are the three most important things or roles in your life?
André Scheibel : Father and head of the family. Family is the most important thing for me. I really enjoy my work. I can't do without it.
one What do you want for the future?
André Scheibel: I would like to see the acceptance of parental leave for fathers and other forms of leave continue to grow. If it can be planned, as in my case, it should be accepted and encouraged.
REWE launches employer campaign
Under the motto "Discover a working world as diverse as you are!", REWE addresses different stages of life.
As an employer, REWE is running a campaign to attract skilled workers and senior managers. The focus is on reconciling work, family and private life. With Bianca, André and Joanna, employees from stores and logistics talk about how they reconcile their different roles between job, family and hobby. The campaign will run until 4 June on the company's own social media channels, digitally, on TV and in high-reach print magazines. As an employer, REWE offers many benefits for individual life situations: from part-time career opportunities and sabbaticals to childcare and uncomplicated support in emergencies.
