Electricity for electric cars, sandwiches for drivers

Shop for groceries around the clock while the electric car charges: In the first automated pilot shop under the "REWE ready" brand, the vehicle and driver refuel at the same time.

At the EnBW (Energie Baden-Württemberg AG) fast-charging stations, an electric car (depending on the technical equipment) can recharge up to 400 kilometres in 20 minutes. At the charging park in Bispingen, drivers and passengers can now use this time to recharge their batteries with a salad, a sandwich or a cool drink - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Consumers select the desired products on the touch display

This is made possible by a fully automated pilot shop that the energy company and REWE opened on 30 September at the fast-charging park on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath. Under the new "REWE ready" brand, the pilot shop offers a wide range of products that optimally meet the needs of charging park users. The innovative technology enables fast and contactless shopping: consumers select the desired products via a touch display, pay without cash and then receive their goods via a conveyor belt.

Focus on immediate consumption

230 articles are currently on offer, up to 500 are possible There are more than 230 products to choose from, mainly items for immediate consumption, including yoghurt, ice cream and a large selection of chilled drinks. In addition, "REWE ready" offers consumers selected goods for everyday needs that are useful on the way home or on holiday, such as spreads, pasta and frozen pizza. The shop design offers the option of offering up to 500 items. This makes the charging experience for electric car drivers even more convenient and at the same time even more convenient: while the car is charging, you can quickly buy a few small items - a snack for a quick boost on a long journey or the ingredients for a quick dinner on the way home after work.

Looking forward to the response

During the pilot phase, REWE and EnBW want to test how the technology and product range are accepted by consumers. Operationally, the pilot project will be managed and controlled by REWE subsidiary Lekkerland, which is responsible for the REWE Group's Convenience business segment. The shop technology was developed by Latebird.
