Corporate volunteering at the food banks
In a pilot project, employees supported food banks in and around Cologne for a day. Here, four of them explain why they took part and what they gained for themselves and the company from their commitment.
Charity campaign by REWE and nahkauf
REWE and nahkauf conclude the traditional "Filling plates together" campaign with an increased donation result of 1,162 tonnes of food compared to the previous year. For a fortnight, the stores had called on customers throughout Germany to donate six selected items to the food bank in their local community. REWE itself donated 200,000 euros worth of food.
Table bag campaign
The campaign has a long tradition, meets with a lively response every year and has already raised over 28 million euros worth of food since its launch in 2011: Since 7 October, customers in over 4,200 REWE and Nahkauf stores have once again been able to buy either paper bags with donated items or donation cards for people affected by poverty.
REWE and food bank
Over 4,000 REWE and nahkauf stores launched a nationwide food bank bag campaign on 9 October. The aim: to work with customers to generate food donations worth three million euros, which will benefit the more than 960 food banks in Germany.
Food waste
The Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Cem Özdemir, has agreed a pact with retailers to combat food waste. REWE Group is also involved. We spoke to Mirka Stark, Head of Strategy and Projects in the Sustainability division.
REWE and PENNY
REWE Group joined forces with REWE and PENNY to support the federal food bank in Mannheim and donated two lorry loads of food. The urgently needed support for people affected by poverty was preceded by an agreement.
