Mit einem kräftigen Umsatzwachstum von rund 2 Milliarden Euro hat die REWE Group das Geschäftsjahr 2021 erfolgreich abgeschlossen und damit erneut ihre Leistungsstärke unter den herausfordernden Bedingungen der Corona-Pandemie unter Beweis gestellt. Der Gesamtaußenumsatz aus fortzuführendem Geschäft stieg um 2,5 Prozent von 74,6 Milliarden auf 76,5 Milliarden Euro.
Erneut überdurchschnittlich positiv entwickelte sich das Geschäft der selbständigen REWE-Kaufleute in Deutschland, die nach einem Umsatzzuwachs von 20,5 Prozent im Jahr 2020 nochmals ein Plus von 4,8 Prozent im zurückliegenden Geschäftsjahr erreichten.
Souque betonte zugleich die operative Stärke und Innovationskraft der genossenschaftlichen Unternehmensgruppe. „Auch im zweiten Jahr der Corona-Pandemie haben wir bewiesen, dass unsere Geschäftsmodelle im In- und Ausland sehr robust sind und wir trotz aller Herausforderungen weiter aus eigener Kraft organisch wachsen. Beeindruckend war unter anderem die Entwicklung des Convenience-Geschäfts von Lekkerland, das sich sehr positiv entwickelt hat. Gleichzeitig arbeiten wir national und international an der kontinuierlichen Modernisierung unseres Geschäfts, an neuen Geschäftsmodellen und an der umfassenden Digitalisierung unseres Unternehmens. Beispiele des vergangenen Jahres dafür sind die Umstellung von Merkur auf Billa Plus, der Roll out des Markthallenkonzepts bei PENNY, die zahlreichen Tests mit Innovationen wie dem ersten Pick&Go-Markt von REWE und die neue Generation von Green Building-Märkten ebenso wie die strategische Beteiligung an Flink oder die Beteiligungen unserer DER Touristik Gruppe an Aldiana und DSR Hotels.“
Die Investitionen des Kölner Handels- und Touristikunternehmens stiegen von rund 1,9 Milliarden Euro im Jahr 2020 auf 2,3 Milliarden Euro im zurückliegenden Geschäftsjahr. Für das laufende Jahr plant die REWE Group Investitionen in Höhe von 2,3 Milliarden Euro.
REWE-Konzern
Der Umsatz des REWE-Konzerns – ohne selbständigen Einzelhandel und At-Equity-Gesellschaften – aus fortzuführendem Geschäft stieg im vergangenen Jahr um 2,5 Prozent (wechselkursbereinigt + 2,4 Prozent) von 67,7 Milliarden auf 69,4 Milliarden Euro. Dabei wuchs der REWE-Konzern in Deutschland um 1,2 Prozent auf 47,2 Milliarden Euro und im Ausland um 5,5 Prozent (wechselkursbereinigt + 5,2 Prozent) auf 22,2 Milliarden Euro.
Das operative Ergebnis EBITA erhöhte sich von 1,22 Milliarden Euro im Jahr 2020 auf 1,49 Milliarden Euro.
Das Konzernjahresergebnis EAT stieg von 415 Millionen auf 756 Millionen Euro.
Das EBITDA des REWE-Konzerns belief sich auf 4,4 Milliarden Euro nach 4,3 Milliarden Euro im Jahr 2020.
Die Investitionen in Sachanlagen und immaterielle Vermögenswerte betrugen 2,3 Milliarden Euro und damit rund 400 Millionen Euro mehr als im Geschäftsjahr zuvor.
Das Eigenkapital stieg von 7,6 Milliarden auf 8,6 Milliarden Euro. Die Nettofinanzverschuldung ohne Leasingverbindlichkeiten lag zum Stichtag 31.12.2021 bei 2,2 Milliarden Euro.
Der Umsatz stieg insgesamt um 2,6 Prozent (wechselkursbereinigt um 2,2 Prozent) von 9,8 auf 10 Milliarden Euro. Dabei erreichte der Umsatz im Vollsortiment Österreich mit Billa, Bipa und Adeg ein Plus von 2,3 Prozent auf 7 Milliarden Euro. Beim Vollsortiment CEE wuchs der Umsatz um 3,2 Prozent (wechselkursbereinigt um 2 Prozent) auf 3,1 Milliarden Euro.

REWE Group successfully concluded the 2021 business year with a strong turnover increase of around 2 billion euros, again delivering evidence of its performance strength in the challenging environment caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Total external turnover from continuing operations rose by 2.5 per cent from 74.6 billion euros to 76.5 billion euros.
The business of REWE independent merchants in Germany again showed above-average positive development, posting a turnover increase of 4.8 per cent in the past business year following growth of 20.5 per cent in 2020.
Souque also emphasised the operational strength and innovativeness of the cooperative business group. "In the second year of the coronavirus pandemic, we have again proved that our business model in Germany and abroad is very robust and that we are continuing to grow organically despite the many challenges. Among other things, the very positive performance of the Lekkerland convenience business was impressive. At the same time, we are working nationally and internationally on the continuous modernisation of our business, new business models and the extensive digitalisation of our company. Examples last year include the switch of Merkur to Billa Plus, the roll-out of the PENNY market hall concept, the many tests of innovations such as the first REWE Pick&Go market and the new generation of Green Building markets, the strategic investment in Flink and the investments by our DER Touristik Group in Aldiana and DSR Hotels."
Investment by the Cologne-based retail and tourism company rose from around 1.9 billion euros in 2020 to 2.3 billion euros in the past business year. REWE Group is planning investment of 2.3 billion euros in the current year.
REWE Group
The turnover of REWE Group – not including independent retail and at-equity entities – from continuing operations rose by 2.5 per cent (2.4 per cent after exchange rate adjustment) from 67.7 billion euros to 69.4 billion euros. REWE Group in Germany grew by 1.2 per cent to 47.2 billion euros and internationally by 5.5 per cent (5.2 per cent after exchange rate adjustment) to 22.2 billion euros.
Operating EBITA grew from 1.22 billion euros in 2020 to 1.49 billion euros. Consolidated EAT climbed from 415 million euros to 757 million euros. EBITDA of REWE Group amounted to 4.4 billion euros after 4.3 billion euros in 2020.
Investment in in tangible and intangible assets was 2.3 billion euros, around 400 million euros more than in the previous business year.
Equity capital climbed from 7.6 billion euros to 8.6 billion euros. As of 31 December 2020, the net financial debt without financial leasing totalled 2.2 billion euros.
Turnover increased by a total of 2.6 per cent (2.2 per cent after exchange rate adjustment) from 9.8 billion euros to 10 billion euros. In the supermarket store sector in Austria with Billa, Bipa and Adeg, turnover rose by 2.3 per cent to 7 billion euros. In the CEE supermarket store sector, turnover grew by 3.2 per cent (2 per cent after exchange rate adjustment) to 3.1 billion euros.
