In a great atmosphere and bright sunshine, 84 teams competed in the "Football Festival of Diversity" in Cologne on 28 May. Among them: REWE Group as the main sponsor with the di.to. kickers and CEO Lionel Souque at the celebrity fun kick.
When radio reporter legend Manni Breuckmann commentates in the "Daisy Moshammer Stadium" - which he has christened - it's the Come Together Cup in Cologne. An estimated 22,000 spectators came to the "Football Festival of Diversity" on Whitsun Sunday to cheer on the 84 recreational football teams on the pitches of Cologne's RheinEnergieStadion. Also taking part: a men's team and a mixed team from REWE Group di.to Kickers and REWE Group as one of the main sponsors.
"I'm delighted to be part of the Come Together Cup and to support this important symbol of diversity. I also really enjoy playing in the celebrity fun kick," said Lionel Souque.
Uniquely different: the di.to team
Two teams of "world-famous" personalities provide footballing entertainment in the celebrity fun kick. Our CEO competed in the "Latente Talente" team against "FC Buntes Köln" and showed great commitment and dedication. However, football is more of a minor matter here: Kölsch beer was served before kick-off, the players chose the pitch by spinning bottles and the referee drew the line for the free kick with spray cream. Former radio reporter Manni Breuckmann commented on the action with a great deal of humour and, as a die-hard Schalke fan, couldn't resist the odd dig at Borussia Dortmund. The 4:4 final score was almost lost in the exuberant atmosphere.
The audience also cheered for the teams that were honoured with a fun trophy. Who wouldn't want to be the team with the "best-swimming and best-looking defence"? On stage, Cologne bands once again provided a party atmosphere until the evening, with Kassalla as the headliner.
The REWE Group has sponsored the annual tournament since 2014 and has regularly entered its own teams for several years. The sporting part is largely organised by the colleagues from di.to., REWE Group's LGBTIQ network. The proceeds from the tournament go to the Cologne charitable organisations Aidshilfe Köln e.V. and anyway e.V.
Both German and English comments appear here.
I was there too and it was a really great event. The weather was fine and the atmosphere was great. It was great fun cheering on the players. I'm already looking forward to next year.
