REWE and its partners are committed to making inclusion a matter of course - from the playground to the playing field. Because playing sports and games together can break down barriers.
Inclusion is not just a buzzword for REWE, but a matter close to its heart. For years, REWE has been committed to projects that improve the lives of people with and without disabilities alike and strengthen the sense of community. One of the great unifying elements is sport. The "Scheine für Vereine" ("Tickets for Clubs") campaign demonstrates time and time again how it inspires and connects people. More than 20,000 amateur sports clubs also took part in the current campaign. And for every registered club, REWE donated 10 euros to Aktion Mensch - a total of over 200,000 euros. "Scheine für Vereine" was running for the sixth time. The campaign supports amateur sports clubs in their voluntary work, but also helps to create inclusive programmes.
REWE Group Management Board member Peter Maly presented the donation to Aktion Mensch at a big afternoon of action on the grounds of TuS Stammheim in Cologne. During the events, children (and adults too, of course) were able to try out various sports - including table tennis on an inclusive table, wheelchair basketball and goal wall shooting. In the latter, spectacles could be put on to show different visual impairments.
Most of the equipment for the joint sport was brought along by the inclusion mobile. It is the latest project that REWE has taken on the road together with Aktion and the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS). The inclusion mobile is touring Germany and motivating schools and clubs to offer inclusive sports programmes. Paralympics star and para-world champion (shot put) Niko Kappel is on board to inspire children and young people to take part in sport together. The mobile shows the diversity of disabled sports and has valuable tips for inclusive sports equipment and team spirit in its luggage.
"Stück zum Glück" starts much earlier - at an early age. Together with Procter & Gamble and Aktion Mensch, REWE is supporting the construction of inclusive playgrounds throughout Germany. The latest inclusive playground was recently opened in Mainz. Since the campaign began in 2018, 3.6 million euros have already been raised and over 55 playgrounds have been built. These playgrounds offer children with and without disabilities a safe space to play together and socialise. For every purchase of a Procter & Gamble product, €0.01 is donated to the initiative. The next target is in sight: donations totalling four million euros. So that even more inclusive play opportunities can be created in Germany.
By focussing on inclusion, REWE creates spaces and opportunities in which everyone can participate. These projects are not only a contribution to social participation, but also proof that inclusion can be lived - from an early age and for everyone.
