What would the discounter be without its female employees? On Friday, 10 March, PENNY employees were brought before the curtain on behalf of the entire team and honoured with the Women Empowerment Award as everyday heroes.
The annual "Women Empowerment Award" focusses on female employees at PENNY. After all, women need role models and PENNY has plenty of them in the retail sector. PENNY employs 2,163 strong women who do impressive work every day. Their stories show that they are everyday heroines who deserve to be put in the spotlight.
On Friday, 10 March, PENNY employees were honoured on behalf of all female employees in the retail sector. Thanks to their constant commitment in the shop as shopping support and advice for customers, as freshness heroes for fruit and vegetables, or as trained butchers, they prove every day what PENNY is all about.

Sara Kotb is a prime example of impressive women at PENNY. In the panel "Outstanding Careers - the story behind great successes", the Viennese with Bosnian-Arab roots spoke about career opportunities in retail and the unique team spirit at PENNY. She started her career with an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman. At the age of 19, she was already in charge of 34 employees. However, her ambition and the development opportunities at PENNY led her to become a district manager (editor's note: district management is comparable to district management in Germany) and then sales manager in 2022. Kotb is currently responsible for 82 shops and over 700 employees. She is one of the many impressive everyday heroes who prove what PENNY is made of.
"I like to take on new challenges so that I can grow with them. PENNY gives me the opportunity to continuously develop and pass on my knowledge to my colleagues. I am very proud to be part of the PENNY family," says Sara Kotb, PENNY Sales Manager.

There is a wide range of training opportunities at PENNY: Apprentices, retail sales assistants, store or district managers are all part of the PENNY family. As the only domestic food discounter, there is even the opportunity to train as a butcher.
Blazenka P. started as a cashier at PENNY in 2008. After a short time, her talent was recognised and she has been store manager ever since. As a mother of three children, she knows how many demands the job entails: "My job as a store manager doesn't seem particularly difficult from the outside, but it's a job with a lot of responsibility and requires a lot of courage and strength, which I'm happy to invest every day."
Ruth S. has also been part of the PENNY family for over ten years. After her maternity leave, she returned to PENNY and it wasn't long before she was offered the position of store manager: "It was a challenge at first, but I managed it and my PENNY shop is doing great."
