BILLA Slovakia - new logistics centre in Sered
One year after laying the foundation stone, BILLA opens a new logistics centre in Sered. With an investment of 39.5 million euros, BILLA confirms its position as a major player in the retail sector, a strong investor and employer. The modern and ecological greenfield site with an area of 138,202 square metres was built in the industrial area of Sered and is comparable in size to 20 football pitches.
It took eleven months to build the logistics centre, which has 74 percent more storage space (28,500 square metres) than the original central warehouse. The storage capacity was increased by 47 percent, with the possibility of storing up to 23,000 tonnes of goods in various temperature ranges. "The investment was made entirely from our own funds and those of REWE Group. We have built a modern and environmentally friendly centre that will bring valuable jobs to the region. In the thirty years that we have been operating in Slovakia, we have already invested almost 700 million euros and we are continuing with our plans. The investments over the next few years will go towards technologies and equipment that will help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2040," said Arnd Riehl, CEO of BILLA, at the opening ceremony of the new logistics centre.

PENNY Italy - new logistics centre in Cascine di Buti

"We will also continue to expand our logistics network in order to do justice to the strategic importance of Italy for PENNY," emphasises Gotthard Klingan, Chief Operations Officer of PENNY Italy, and explains: "This inauguration and the one in Catania in 2019 are confirmation of this. We are responding flexibly to the changes that the market and social, political and environmental events are imposing on us, optimising and making more efficient the distribution network that is the link with our customers. I believe that this new positioning should be seen in this direction, but more generally we can say that responsibility and innovation are currently our priorities."

PENNY Italy - new logistics centre in Cascine di Buti
PENNY Italia's new logistics centre opens its doors in Cascine di Buti, Pisa, to supply the sales outlets in Tuscany and central northern Italy with a total of over 90 branches. 32 million euros were invested in the 23,000 square metre building. A total of 120 employees will work in the new camp.
"We continue to renew our logistics network, asthe entire Italian territory is an extremely important strategic destination for PENNY - emphasises Gotthard Klingan, Chief Operations Officer of PENNY Italy - and this inauguration and the one in Catania in 2019 are the confirmation of this. I believe that this new line-up should be seen in that direction, but more generally we can say that responsibility and innovation are our current priorities."

It would be nice if you could also see the photovoltaic systems in the photos. Unfortunately, not even a single PV module is recognisable. What does "photovoltaic system with a capacity of 400 kilowatt hours" mean? Does it mean 400 kilowatts peak or 400kWh per year? Or is there a battery with a capacity of 400kWh? Even a small private PV system usually produces far more than 10 times the 400kWh per year...
