Positive earnings development
Operating earnings (EBITA) rose by 25.6 per cent from 1.45 billion euros (2022) to 1.83 billion euros, while consolidated net profit increased by 46.2 per cent from 503.5 million euros to 736.2 million euros, thus returning to the 2021 level - primarily due to the positive development of Travel and Tourism. The return on sales (EBITA) was 2.2 per cent in 2023, up from 2.1 per cent in 2021 and 1.9 per cent in 2022. After 1.1 per cent in 2021 and 0.7 per cent in 2022, annual profit will be 0.9 per cent in 2023.

The Group result is characterised by two opposing developments. On the one hand, the high food inflation had a positive impact on sales development and, on the other hand, increases in purchase prices and costs had a negative effect on EBITA development. The positive developments, particularly in Travel and Tourism and the Convenience business segment, had a significant positive impact on earnings.

At the same time, the Group further increased its investment activities despite the crisis: investments in property, plant and equipment and intangible assets rose by around 200 million euros from 2.8 billion euros to 3.0 billion euros.

REWE Group is also planning investments totalling 3.0 billion euros for the current year. Equity rose by 6.9 per cent from 9.4 billion euros to 10.0 billion euros.
