PENNY
The festival trend is vegan bowls and beer
by Michaela Thömmes

300 DJs, 10 stages and 85,000 visitors a day: Parookaville is Germany's biggest electronic music festival. PENNY was also a sponsor again this year, providing party fans with everything their hearts desire in two pop-up markets around the clock. If you're already in the mood for the next festival, you can win tickets for the new San Hejmo Festival!

Around 350 PENNY employees provided the more than 200,000 "citizens" (as the visitors are called) with cold drinks and barbecue food in the main store, which covered around 2,000 square metres, and in the 950 square metre trainee store. The fact that the two stores were extremely popular was particularly noticeable on Saturday and Sunday, which were the busiest days of the event with 32,000 customers. In total, around 126,000 customers were served over five days. The calm before the storm

The trend in beer sales this year was clearly away from mixed drinks and led to higher sales of pure Pilsner. A total of 480,000 cans of beer were sold, 130,000 bottles of water, over 71,000 Sunday rolls and pizzas each, as well as a large quantity of ice cubes, fruit and barbecue food.

While the main store was open around the clock, the trainee store was only open at night from 9 pm so that the trainees themselves could also take part in the festival. "In addition to our seminars, projects and campaigns, we have created another highlight for our junior staff," reported Martina Weinhold, who is responsible for national trainee projects at PENNY.

The highlights

The unofficial starting signal for the festival was the staff party on Wednesday, at which not only PENNY employees, but also organisers, sponsors and local residents got in the mood for Parookaville. Things got romantic with a live marriage proposal on stage in front of 600 guests during a performance by the Cologne band Aluis. PENNY sponsored the newly engaged couple their own honeymoon hut on the festival site.

PENNY presented the new pop-up restaurant in an old bunker: over 2,400 vegan dishes were sold in "The Green Hangout", which were created by five influencers who were also present at times. The module went down so well that the restaurant was completely sold out by Sunday evening due to the high demand for burger bowls and vegan Bolognese.

After the festival is before the festival: Win 4x2 tickets for the new San Hejmo!

San Hejmo takes off from Weeze Airport for the first time on 20 August. PENNY will also be there again. The discounter will continue to be present at the country's festivals as part of PENNY.festivals. The headliners at San Hejmo are Marteria and Loredana. The festival focuses on a wide range of music, from electro to pop music to Kölsch, so there is something for every taste.

In addition to the music, the festival also offers culinary highlights, from burritos and wraps from Maghreb to burgers. PENNY is also involved in this: with the "Green Hangout", PENNY is providing festival fans with the finest vegan dishes freshly prepared in the restaurant for the second time. Anyone who buys a vegan dish in the Green Hangout will receive a voucher worth 3 euros. This voucher can be redeemed at any PENNY shop from 22 August to 3 September with a purchase value of 20 euros or more.

The San Hejmo starts at 1 pm and ends at 1 am. The Giant Rooks, Zoe Wees, Felix Jaehn, Mr President, Die Atzen and Blümchen will be on stage, among others. Visitors can look forward to five stages: Mainstage, Electro, 90s, Kölsch and Trash.

Behind the festival, whose name means something like "holy home", are the organisers of Parookaville from "Next Events Gruppe". Young people aged 16 and over can visit the festival, so it's even a good opportunity for a family outing. The festival also focuses on street art and exhibits paintings, sculptures and graffiti. The organisers are expecting 25,000 to 35,000 visitors.
