
As a long-standing partner, REWE has been offering supporters of 1. FC Köln a unique "money can't buy" experience every year since 2019 with the Mittelkreis events. REWE was honoured with the silver BrandEx Award in the "Best Formats Event" category at the International Festival of Brand Experience for this series of events.
After the lucky winners were able to experience a centre-circle BBQ at various barbecue stations at the first edition in 2019, the REWE centre-circle dinner in 2020 gave selected wedding couples the opportunity to make up for the celebration with their closest loved ones in "their" stadium that they were unable to hold due to the pandemic. in 2021, the REWE Mittelkreis event was once again held under the motto "barbecue": fans were able to enjoy a tasty BBQ and a carefree time with family and friends in their own allotment garden plot.
On 10 February 2022, Rainer Fischer, Lead Marketing Partnerships at REWE, accepted the award as part of a hybrid award ceremony via a live broadcast. On behalf of REWE, he was delighted with the award: "With the REWE Mittelkreis events, we set a highlight every year in the activation of our partnership with 1. FC Köln and have thus become an integral part of the fans' football calendar. We have also been able to sweeten the football-free period enormously for the fans of 1. FC Köln with our events."
The BrandEx Award is an international creative award and honours successful live communication every year. The central evaluation criteria are creativity and successful implementation. This year there were a total of 64 entries. The REWE Mittelkreis event series was one of the three nominees for one of the coveted awards in the "Best Formats Event" category and ultimately secured the silver trophy.
