Anyone planning to enter the music business in 2025 can now pick up a few tips at the cinema. But be careful, these are feature films, not documentaries. In "Better Man", you can tell by the fact that the star of the film, Robbie Williams, is portrayed by a fantastically animated monkey. Motto: Stardom is a monkey business! Gaelic-Irish hip-hoppers Kneecap are working on their own myth. Department stores' extortionist Arno Funke, on the other hand, took a completely different route to fame in the early 90s.
It's a familiar story: overbearing parent, outsider at school, you can only become a pop star. At least that's what the films about Elton John ("Rocketman"), Freddy Mercury ("Bohemian Rhapsody") and Udo Lindenberg ("Do your thing") say. "Better Man" is no exception. The sensation of the bio-pic about the former boy band heartbreaker and later solo artist Robbie Williams is rather the monkey that represents him. Brilliantly animated, he is everything that characterises Williams: cheeky, funny, touching, melancholy, narcissistic, shy and sometimes everything at the same time.
Michael Gracey
Cinema fans who love opulent, colourful, magical and musical films are already familiar with the name Michael Gracey. Born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1976, the director made Hugh Jackman an award-worthy "Greatest Showman" in 2017. Gracey entered the film business in the mid-90s as a digital artist, responsible for the visual effects in feature films. He created a second mainstay as a director of music videos, including for the Sugababes and P!nk, about whom he is also filming the documentary "All I Know So Far" in 2021.

The Northern Irish hip-hop band Kneecap is a phenomenon, and not just because they rap in Irish Gaelic. The three Belfast natives have also managed to turn all fundamentalist sides against them since their formation in 2017, be they Protestant, Catholic, English or Irish. Their fans celebrate the trio all the more uninhibitedly at live gigs. After witnessing a gig, English journalist and director Rich Peppiatt decided to create a fitting film memorial to the band. With everything that goes with it: facts, fiction, animation and Michael Fassbender.
Michael Fassbender
With "Hunger" (2008), "Shame" (2011) and most recently "The Killer" (2023), Michael Fassbender, born in Heidelberg in 1977, has amply demonstrated that as an actor he can (almost) manage a feature film all by himself. What is less well known is that he also seeks out challenges on a smaller scale: Fassbender, who grew up in Ireland from the age of two, polished up his German for Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds", donned a giant papier-mâché head for the black comedy "Frank" and learnt Gaelic especially for his brief appearance in "Kneecap".

From Robin Hood to Zorro, mankind loves underdogs who stand up to the authorities. So it's no wonder that the media pounced on a blackmailer in the early 1990s who threatened large department stores with homemade bombs and comic book names without bloodshed. However, Scrooge became a true folk hero thanks to his clever cat-and-mouse game with the police. In this respect, the six-part series "Ich bin Dagobert" (I am Scrooge) focuses more on psycho than on action, something for which author Ronny Schalk already proved to be a specialist with the series "Dark". Friedrich Mücke in the title role also has the gift of disappearing perfectly behind Scrooge's many facets.

The silhouette-like idyll in "Neva" is lovely, but the threat posed by the ravenous demons that appear at every turn is great. Only you as a human sword fighter and your wolf cub can save this world. It is important not to lose the spiritual connection to each other. The Asian simplicity and mythology of "Neva" was created in the Spanish game studio Nomada Studio, where they also realised that less fuss leaves more room for emotion.
