Shopping and quickly sending or picking up a parcel or letter - it's easy to do at several thousand REWE, PENNY, Nahkauf or Toom stores. Since the beginning of April, REWE Group and Deutsche Post DHL Group have been providing their customers with 3,500 joint customer contact points for parcel services throughout Germany. The latest customer contact point is a new DHL Packstation in Frechen near Cologne.
This means that customers can use Deutsche Post DHL's postal and parcel services at more and more REWE Group locations throughout Germany - in the form of a DHL Packstation, a partner shop or a DHL parcel shop. With their extensive cooperation, the two companies are also strengthening postal services in rural areas.
"We have been working successfully for years to make shopping in supermarkets, discounters and DIY stores even more attractive by offering additional services. The focus here is on services that make everyday life easier for customers. The advantage of parcel services at our locations is that customers can combine receiving and sending parcels with shopping at REWE Group stores. We can see that customer acceptance is very good. That is why we will continue to increase the number of stores with this service," says Philipp Schachten, Officer to the CEO of the REWE Group.
Due to increasing online trade, the number of parcels sent in Germany has risen steadily in recent years. REWE Group has accompanied this development since 1995 and offers its customers the option of conveniently picking up or dropping off parcels and packages while doing their daily shopping at REWE, Nahkauf, PENNY or Toom. In terms of the total number of DHL parcel stations, parcel shops and partner shops, REWE Group is the largest cooperation partner of Deutsche Post DHL Group.
Holger Bartels, Head of Multichannel Sales in the Post and Parcel division of Deutsche Post DHL Group, explains: "The cooperation with REWE Group enables us to offer our mail and parcel services at locations that are easily accessible and very attractive for our customers. This applies to both urban and rural areas. Our Packstation service in particular is becoming increasingly popular with our customers, as parcels can be collected and sent there flexibly, without waiting times and contactless."
Packstations are generally accessible around the clock. They are also located at central locations in everyday life, for example at supermarkets, on company premises or at public transport stops, so that customers can use them conveniently on their daily journeys. By avoiding additional journeys, the use of Packstations is also particularly environmentally friendly. Due to high demand, Deutsche Post DHL Group will expand its network of Packstations, which already consists of over 9,000 machines across Germany, to around 15,000 Packstations by the end of 2023.
